Recommend an 'epic' classical piano piece

his most complete work for piano and IMHO his best.

( and also regarded by Mozart himself as his best according to the museum guide in Saltzburg last year!)


Chopin's works are also excellent to listen to on a cold night sat by the fire

My favourite piece is Gymnopedies I by Erik Satie. But then it is VERY mellow.

There is a piece that most 5-11yo Chinese children learn... I think it is called 'Knife and Fork' which is interesting the first time, then rapidly deteriorates into an annoying racket.

when we do our Christmas concerts in Shoreham St mary's, our old rehearsal pianist lawrence normally plays a piece - Tchiakovski(sp)/rachmaninov/Chopin or something like that and no matter how good or bad we have been singing, he always has everyone in absolute awe.

When you hear a piano played well, I recon its the best sound in the world

Probably not an epic but I grew up with listening to Dave Brubeck play it (my Dad is a DB nut) and I guess its in my blood, and why when I played it for my 7th grade exam the examiner stood and applauded (whilst I fell of my seat from shock)....
