Mono - Hymn to the immortal wind
Soulsavers - Broken
De Rosa - Prevention

I like the new Flaming Lips album though. I always prefered their older noisier stuff so the new album is right up my street.

Honorable mentions to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Cate Le Bon, Strike The Colours, f*** Buttons and Joy Formidable.

Oh I nearly forgot the undoubted best album of the year by a million miles is Joe Gideon and the Shark, absolute genius.

Best music award of the year has to go to Spotify. I just read the post above and immediately started listening to the Mono album.

I don't understand the obsession with the Kasabian album.
I loved their first two albums but i thought bar Fast Fuse and Vlad the Impaler, their new album was atrocious.
Maybe it's just me..

Ely, Cambs.
Just two thus far:

1= Diagonal - self titled. (of Brighton!)

2= Astra - The Weirding.

Both on Rise Above records.

Awesome contemporary prog, for those who like: BJH, King Crimson, Floyd, Sabbath (prog leanings), Heep, Tull, Lord Wakeman and the even more obscure: Nektar, Pulsar, Gracious and perhaps even small elements of Fruup, Gentle Giant, Gravy Train and Gnidrolog.

Set your Mellotron's to stun.

YouTube - Astra - 06/07 - Broken Glass / The Dawning of Ophiucus

YouTube - Astra - 03 - Silent Sleep

YouTube - Astra - Side 1 - 01 - The Rising of the Black Sun

Rock and Roll!

Kosh

Completely agree about Astra, amazing album.
Have you heard any BigElf or Beardfish?

It is very good indeed, although I have to say I think Andromeda Heights is probably my favorite PS album.

Hmm.... not sure... Swoon and Steve McQueen still rock me...... did you read the interview with him in the Independent. here's this man without about 25 years of albums written but he can't sing them because it causes him too much pain.

Tragedy!

Really? Wasn't she a one hit wonder about a decade ago! Might give her a bit of a chance after that one hit, t'was quite a catchy little number!

That's just about her only happy song.. "Sitting Down Here"..

Im interested as to who Prefab Sprout are? I only ask as your other two suggestions would be in my top 3 albums of the year!!

Check wikipedia for band info. Cultish band in the eighties and early nineties. Had one hit with 'The King of Rock N Roll' which Paddy disdains as written in 15 mins on the back of a ciggie pack. Spent the next fifteen years trying to escape their popularity.

The Bunnymen just can't do any wrong. I must admit I have played all their oldies to death and am a bit tired of the Cutter etc. But Siberia and the Fountain are among their best cds me thinks. Uplifting stuff
