On this day two years ago, Bolton had 7 points more than us now having played two games more than us. They missed out on the play-offs ONLY because they didn't beat Blackpool at home on the last day of the season.

They overhauled Southampton from this pitiful position on 1st Nov 2011 to win the title, never mind reach the play-offs.

Ask yourself, did those teams have Championship quality strikers? Now look at what we have.

No chance of a playoff place, without genuine quality players being signed. Lower half of the table beckons imo, I'll settle for that tbh as I have no faith in us signing quality players in this window.

Nor have I to be honest - just putting it out there.

Although I would say that I didn't think much of Bolton in that season. And until Roberts arrived, Reading had the perma-shit, Simon Church leading the line.

Good questions - made me go and have a look. Much as I wish it weren't so I think we need to give up any lingering hopes
- only one team lower than 11th at this time of year has made the final top 6 in the last 5 seasons
- only the exceptional Newcastle / Leicester teams got anywhere near the points per game average we would need to get to 72 points

Which means we have a chance to make history

All well and good, but without a goal scorer we'll get nowhere near the playoffs, this season or next.

I tend to agree -we must not get carried away just yet. The last 3 away games could have gone either way and the strikers are still not scoring as they should. To be fair, give credit where it is due, and we DID win games which under SH we would surely have lost. The next two league games at home will tell us more -the home form hitherto has been dire and if we are genuinely "back" then we can expect two victories, or at least 4 points from 6. The situation up front is the most pressing.
