The Selden Arms is a decent pub, some real good ales. I think it was in the Camra pub guide not so long ago as being the best in worthing or something like that.

Living just around the corner from the Brooksteed, one of lifes treats is popping into the italian deli for coffee..the Pantry for a huge sausage roll and cakes for the family, a 2 pint takeaway of whatevers on at brooksteed. Then if im not tired after all that lot..a short back and sides at fellas then a game at woodside road. I know, I certainly live the high life!

dunno about high life, fellas aside you are living my life!

The Pantry is Worthings best kept secret. Absolutely incredible. If I'm working from home I'll always pop in for the nicest sandwich you'll ever have & a chocolate crossaint

Best sausage rolls in town by far. Not cheap but top quality pastry and meat and also very filling. The chocolate and almond croissant with the crème pat filling is also something to behold.

I live round the corner from the John Selden but not been! Need to fix that by sound of it

The Selden Arms and The John Selden are two different pubs. One is near the hospital and the other in Salvington.

The Selden Arms has good beer but you can only get three men and a puppy in there before it gets full. I'm sure some of the new micro-pubs are bigger.

I also live very close to the John Selden. Used to go regularly but not these days. Beer choice is pretty average but reasonably priced and it is a nice pub, does nice standard pub food and has occasional offbeat entertainment there. The landlord, Rod, is one of life's great raconteurs and I have spent hours in his company being entertained by stories from his time as a ladies hairdresser and in the travel business. He used to have the Old House at Home in Broadwater before moving up to the John Selden.

Oops! John Selden does carry Dark Star doesn't it? Good enough for me for a beer or 2

Nope - last time I think it was Abbot Ale. I think that tells you enough about the beer range!

I worked in the John Selden in the early 60s when Eric Kirk was the landlord. It was then a Friary Meux pub and was in Durrington but estate agents to get better prices for the houses come up with the idea of calling it either Lower Salvington or just Salvington. To us oldies it is still Durrington.
