The Wookiee
Back From The Dead
A few years ago for 35 million euros ! !
And Manchester United (Ferguson made official offers for him to Valencia in 2004-2005; he wanted him to replace Giggs), and Barça, and Liverpool, and Juventus, etc. When he was 16-17 Wenger wanted to sign him for Arsenal and Vicente even spend in London a weekend visiting the club, stadium etc but the Valencia sporting director called him and told him that Valencia was going to sign him and he rejected Arsenal's offer and Real Madrid's too. 2 years later he finally signed for Valencia. He rejected a lot of offers from the big clubs between 1997 and 2006 because only wanted to play for Valencia.
He is obviously a great player, but has had injuries. Is he now fit and how do you think he will bed in to life playing for Brighton ?
amazing detail, thank you... it sounds like we have signed an absolute superstar - assuming he plays injury free, and from what you say there is no reason he won't, then he will definitely be the best player ever to play for BrightonHe hasn't had serious injuries since 2006. From 2007 until now he has had only muscular problems, for 3-4 weeks. He had left ankle surgery in Jan 05 and again in 2006 in his right ankle and a fissure in his tibia. The past 3 seasons: 2008/09 he played 45 games and only have 2 minor microfibre strains in november and a minor problem in his ankle in May (around 4 weeks out in total); 2009/10 he had a pinched sciatic nerve and was out for 3 months, but Emery didn't play him regularly from December to the end of March, when he decided to play him and he didn't have problems to kick Mata out of the starting XI until the end of the season; 2010/11 he started playing at the starting XI but he had a fight with Emery in September and almost didn't play from November until the end of the season because of their bad relationship. This past season he only had a minor microfibre strain in January (2 weeks out). As you can see, if he hasn´t played more games the past 4 years it was not for the injuries. The problems he had in his ankles were because during Benitez's era (2001-2004) he played many many games being injured because the team needed him. In fact the season 2003/04 he was the main reason they won liga, Uefa Cup and Supercup and he played almost half of the season with his left ankles infiltrated (I don't know if this is the right term in English: I mean that he played injured and getting injections for the pain during the games).

thanks again for the insight ! How do you know all this ?
Emery sounds like a Dick.
He has played at good level this past season and has been the best player of the team the majority of the few games Emery let him play. If he can do that in the 3rd team in la liga after Barça and Madrid imagine what he can do at the Campionship if he can play regularly.
As I said in the other thread, I'm from Valencia and have been following his career since he was 16.
If they were married, they would have cited 'incompatibility' as a cause for divorce. They never managed to get along well from the beginning. Vicente had to leave the club because the situation was unbearable for both.

Not too sure about him tbh? Emery told him he'd have to take the rough with the smooth, and it seems he rubbed him up the wrong way

1) You can ask the mods to check my IP and they will see that I'm writing right now from a PC in Alicante, Spain, not in Brighton.
2) Vicen doesn't speak a word of English, so it's impossible he can write all what I have written in this board.
Sergei's Celebration: no I'm not his agent either. Just what I said, a VCF fan that has seen him play since he was in Levante.
Albionite: yes, Emery has had problems with 70% of the players in Valencia for the last 3 seasons. Not only the ones you mencioned. As some point he had problems with Pablo Hernández, Silva, Villa, Aduriz, Soldado, Jordi Alba, Navarro, Costa, Bruno, Banega, ... He fall in love with a player as fast as he send him to the stands for 3 months with the player doesn't knowing why and after that he's again at the starting XI. Emery is a bit fickle.
How is Joaquin doing these days? I played as a winger and he and Vicente are the reasons I follow Valencia as my Spanish team
