Reading player ratings

Wot no player ratings! For NSCers who could not be there here are my humble opinions:

Kuipers 10

Kusczcsak 7. Good shot stopper (one excellent save) but distribution still needs work.
Bruno 9. The guy is going to be a favourite with the fans.
Greer 8. Good solid game.
Dunk 6. OK game overall, but one awful sliced clearance. Needs to cut out these inconsistencies.
Calderon 7. Not as good as Saturday. Gave the ball away a few too many times.
Bridcutt 9. Excellent game ... again.
Dicker 8. Apart from one lapse, a good game. Seems to have improves on last season.
Noone 8. Great anticipation whenever he gets the ball, but end product still needs work.
Crofts 8. Good solid game.
Vicente 9. Great game again, but we need to ensure we don't rely on him too much as, cincidentally or not, we looked much poorer after he was subbed.
Barnes 8. Looked good until he went to the striker role when Vicente went off. Then not able to make much headway from the long balls.

Subs:
Adgestein 6. Expected more. Tried a lot of stuff which didn't quite come off. Flashes of good stuff.
Sparrow. Not on long enough.
ElAbd. Ditto.

Whoever was marking the Reading goal scorer loses a point. Couldn't see whether it was ElAbd or Bruno, but looked to me as though he was outjumped.

Not as encouraging as Saturday, but not a pretty good performance.

Would pretty much agree with all of that. I think the lack of player ratings is due to it feeling actually a lot more like just a run out compared to the Chelsea game where we really went for it.

I would agree with that, apart from however Noone - I was disappointed with him.

I think LuaLua will be before him in the pecking order

I thought Noone was quality, constantly had the beating of their men and won tonnes of free kicks.

Kuipers 10 - Outstanding save, few shouts of "KEEPERSH!" and crying when subbed earn the FDM top marks.

Kusczcsak 7. Looked solid but seems to be unsure of what is expected of him when distributing the ball. Lots of shouting from Gus and Charlie to the big man.
Bruno 9. Looks awesome defensively and going forward. Very athletic and a great touch. Might be worth a few first goal punts with his bombing forward.
Greer 7. Looked comfortable.
Dunk 6. Looks like he's going to start alongside GG but he's not as good as El Abd in my opinion. Could be just his height giving him the edge.
Calderon 7. Can do a job at left back but we need a proper LB.
Bridcutt 8. Looks like carrying on from last season. Beautiful footballer.
Dicker 6. Plays a great pass then gives away possession on a simple ball wide. Surely the one to step down if we sign a big striker.
Noone 7. Always wants the ball and full of tricks. Not as direct as Buckley or Lua Lua but a great alternative.
Crofts 8. He'll probably go unnoticed in most games but he knows what his job is - lets the likes of Vicente play.
Vicente 8. Amazing that he is able to play twice a week now. Looks fitter and sharper than ever but he's not a striker. More effective from deep.
Barnes 7. As said before, looks at his best playing off a striker or on the left. His passing has improved. Continues to win loads of free kicks with his usual fall to his hands and knees with back to goal. Definite starter.
Subs:
Adgestein 6. I like him but I don't see what he can offer the first team at the moment. Not a striker and not a winger. Decent going forward and defensively.

I am a great fan of Noone but thought he could have done a little more last night! Up against Harte I felt he could have got at him a little more! He has the pace to do so but held off and opted to pass inside! Maybe a confidence thing or maybe tactical?!

The overlapping Bruno is a massive plus and could cause havoc this season!!

Thought Noone did well ..constantly fouled ..Bruno certainly looks the business but it was a mistake by him going forward tht led to the buildup re Kuipers save ....Reading were ordinary ...does Roberts still play for them? Was hoping for a repeat battle between him n Adam

On the subject of ratings, based on last night I would rate Reading's chances of staying in the Prem for more then one season as little-to-no chance. I know it was only a friendly but they neither look technically good enough to do a Swansea or physical enough to do a Norwich.

I only want to talk of Bruno after last night. He is f***ing hilarious. His passing was sublime, for one. How we got him just to please Vicente is beyond me, but i am delighted we did. His sliding tackles were perfectly timed and completely took the player out, legally. I seem to remember somewhere on here that Valencia fans or someone in Spain classed him as an average workhorse when, in actuality, or English champsionship actuality at least, he's a backheeling, baldheaded, hardman flairite with some fancydan boots.
Sure it will all get rougher when the league starts, but i want to see him carry on as he is. An absolute joy and another attacking threat as much as a sure-footed defender. Ace.

Agree with these, would have given Dicker a 7, he certainly wasn't any worse than Noone IMO.

All played well, though I would say Dunk has to remember that the people he passes to at the Amex play in blue/white stripes.

Yes, thanks for pointing that out. I also didn't mean deep as in from centre back, in goal, or half way up the North Stand.

I felt he made very little attempt to tackle Noone legitimately.

It does take some doing to get booked in a friendly, and if that was a league game, he would have been treading a very thin line.

Thought 7 for Calderon is a bit generous to be honest. He struggled at LB, Reading ran past him far too easily many times. Bruno looks class though, and the team as a whole make me feel very optimistic about this season.

Kusczcsak 7. Made a couple of great saves and is growing into his role. His distribution is a bit questionable at times but he's still learning our ways.
Bruno 8. Class in a glass. Clearly Prem standard
Greer 8. Solid.
Dunk 6. Some good interception but seems prone to some SERIOUS lapses in concentration at the moment. No coincidence he was taken off shrtly after his mistake in this one.
Calderon 7. Solid at left back
Bridcutt 9. Brilliant. He seems to be even better than last season and has jumped up in standard.
Dicker 8. Quietly went about his business and other than one slip was busy and tidy
Noone 6. Quickly losing that sense of anticipation when he gets the ball as it almost always ends in a bad cross, pass, shot, decision. Sadly at the moment, I feel that when he gets the ball, the attack will end shortly after.
Crofts 7. Quieter that saturday but does the business in a calm and professional manner. Solid.
Vicente 9. His influence cannot be underestimated. Great ball to Barnes for the pen, calm penalty too.
Barnes 8. Would have been a 9 but he was left very isolated once he moved inside. Noone and Adgestein were miles away from him most of the time and he's not really equipped to dealt with "power-hoofs" aimed an inch above his head

Subs:
Adgestein 6. Very good when running at the defence but control let him down occasionally. Still shows a lot of promise.
Sparrow NA.
El-Abd NA. But I think he has already done enough to move above Dunk in the pecking order.
