They need to sort the keeper position out once and for all otherwise the likes of Prior, Foster, Davis and already Read and going to become more and more disillusioned.

I really dont rate Jones, His batting is OK but whats the point of getting 50 when a player you have dropped gets 70?

I would like (obviously not as a Sussex fan) to see Prior given a go. He could be very dangerous coming in at 7/8 for some runs down the order and is improving behind the stumps.

In an ideal world, I would like Prior in the one dayers and Read in the test team.

Prior, simply for his batting, to extend our tail.

A top class wicketkeeper can save you 50 runs in a test match and take some crucial wickets. If we do not have a 'Gilchrist' then I think we should play a specialist keeper. Read's batting has improved immensely of late.

Like most, I prefer Read behind the stumps but you have to admit that Jones has picked up his game recently and put some good performances in.

I don't think its graveney and the other selectors. It was Graveney and the others that overruled Fletcher last summer when read came in against Pakistan. However, on tour it is Fletcher and the captain that select the team so Read was out.

Fletcher did the same in the West Indies 3 years ago when he brought Jones in instead of Read.

Personally I think now is the time to invest in the Worcs keeper Davies. We have 2 summers and 2 winters to get him up to speed in the test team before we take on the Aussies again.

If we fiddle around with Jones, Read and Prior we'll not get any answers in my opinion. Let those 3 fight it out in the ODI team so that they can act as useful back up if needed for the test team.

Fletcher stuck with the guys that won him the Ashes in 2005, i.e. Giles and Geraint Jones, in the belief that they would perform, once again, on the big stage. This policy, as most observers predicted, went on to fail because of llong-term lack of fitness (Giles) and form (Jones).

Read has been shabbily treated. However, I expect Graveney and Fletcher have seen something they don't like and Flintoff / Vaughan have probably had their say as well. Maybe it's his demeanour, I dunno.

Nixon's done OK but he hasn't pulled up any trees and Read is definitely the better batsman. It's not as if Foster or Prior have done any better when given their chance.

I'd love to see Prior given the gloves in both test and one-dayers, but I'm not convinced he's got the big match temperament at the highest level.

I really feel for Read. Clearly his face doesn't fit with Fletcher (and possibly the other selectors) and he will be left out if they can possibly get away with it.

I can't see that Nixon will start the home Test series next summer, so it will be interesting to see who they go with. I just hope they base it on more than purely weight of runs in the first month of the county season, as we have talented keepers who deserve better than that.

Chris Read would still be my first choice, and would have been since the middle of last summer.

I think making sure that happens is Jeremy Snape's job...

What is Fletcher thinking of with this move...? If a team of international sportsmen need a specialist in psychobabble to help motivate themselves to play in a World Cup then it must be time for the coach to consider his position...

This is cricket, it's a wicket keeper.

Read should be given another chance:clap:
