I've heard he's a bit of a knobski, but that might just be pub talk.
Though I still have him down as a cool guy.

He runs courses in survival and tends to be very strict with those on the course. A friend of the wife went on a course held in Ashdown Forest, Ray explained how to make a fire, then asked everyone to try. Apparently one bloke ignored what he had been told and tried to do it his own way. Ray gave him a bollocking for not listening.

Having 'done' arctic survival I can say that Ray Mears makes the most difiicult of tasks look very easy. A1 bloke in my book.

He's very knowleable and skillful at the hiding in bushes and eating twigs lark.

Thing is I've heard from more than one source that he's a bit "weird" in a Looney type of way.

You'd be a bit wierd if you spent most of your time out in the back of beyond ...

ray Mears lives down the road from me - never see him in the village though - guess he doesn't need to use the local shops - just lives off the land.

On one of his courses you can pay extra for food delivered to the course - which I would have thought rather defeats the purpose of outdoor survival. Propably appeals to the corporate types though! Salmon sandwiches whilst being at one with nature.

Do you mean Ray or Looney ?

Well Ray is a bit wierd because he spends much of his time out in the back of beyond, whereas Looney should be made to spend all his time out in the back of beyond.:)

Ive had dinner with him, and i can confirm he is great company and a top bloke.
Very very interesting indeed.

all of his stuff is nicked from native people, he is just a common thief making money out of indigenous people.
