In fairness the home side did not play the National Anthem. The fans sang it.

Sorry Malta Seagull, but to be accurate Rangers FC did actually play GSTQ over the PA system in the ground and the fans sang along. This is a clear breach of tournament rules which are put in place for very sensible reasons...

I'm sorry but there is a right and wrong answer here; the rules of the competition are that it's a club not national competition and therefore national anthems are not appropriate. We all know that Rangers fans are staunch unionists and so breaking the national anthem rule is making a political point, which is what the UEFA rule is designed to prevent. I'm sure the 100th anniversary of Irish independence, or the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution are very emotional and important events for clubs in those countries but they can't drag that into club football tournaments...

So, it's just the English (and Glasgow Rangers) that have to comply then? Sospan Fach, Flower of Scotland (FFS!), Land of my Fathers, Danny Boy and the Fields of bloody Athenry - all fine and dandy - and that bloody Song of Joy - but GSTK? Oh dearie me, no, no, no!!

OK let's make this simple:

1. this is a club not national competition
2. to avoid nationalistic hubris national anthems are not permitted to be played by clubs before matches
3. however, there is nothing to stop fans singing whatever they like
4. none of the songs you list are official national anthems, and anyway I'm not aware of them being played ahead of club games by teams from any of those countries.
5. I sincerely hope that you now see the difference

The mere fact us "Brits" are being told what we can and cant do by a bunch of countries that owe us their very existence pisses me off , we get no respect and no thanks from countries that would have lost their national anthems a long time ago . They want freedom but under their conditions and only if and when it suits them .

Well done Rangers:thumbsup:

:lolol:

The Pretty Plnk Fairy account has some strong competition.
