Rail replacement buses on Saturda

The replacement buses back to Haywards Heath will be interesting on Saturday.

If anyone else has had to endure these after a game, I'd recommend getting a bus to Brighton and picking one "back up the line" from there.

Are they running a train shuttle service between Preston Park and Brighton or is the line completely closed.

why can you not get the replacement rail busses to stop at Withdean/london road on the way through to Brighton?

Surely that is going to be simpler than having everyone trying to get to brighton and then back out on the shuttle train!

why can you not get the replacement rail busses to stop at Withdean/london road on the way through to Brighton?

Surely that is going to be simpler than having everyone trying to get to brighton and then back out on the shuttle train!

I guess they will argue the buses replacing the slow trains will pick on London Road, opposite the Preston Park Hotel, for passengers wanting to travel from Preston Park.

The train company did not have to put these on, but after a bit of negotiation, they have agreed.

There is nothing after 1730 on the way back. It will revert back to busses.

The same problem occurred on the day of Leeds United's last visit to Withdean.

When the replacement busses service from HH to Brighton has been in operation before, the busses have gone up the bypass and down past BASVIC and to the station......At least the last time I went on one.....what i was suggesting was instead of that, they could go along the London Road and drop people off going to the footy instead of taking them all into town.

I am guessing those are the ones non stop to Haywards Heath and there are ones that go down London Road, but they are covering the stoppers and pick up near Preston Park station.

Dave, the last two occasions I've got replacement bus services into town, they've gone down London Road. They stop by the Preston Park Hotel, then go via Preston Circus, & up New England Street to Brighton Station.


Never heard of them going via Dyke Road.

It depends if the driver knows where he is going!!! I kid you not, when we were going to Blackpool in March, there were replacement buses. So we arrive at Brighton station at about 5am to get the bus to Three Bridges, the driver sets off, gets out of the New England Quarter and then asks the passengers how he gets out of Brighton.

You should be able to get a bus from opposite the Preston Park Hotel, only thing is it will stop at all the odd places on the way to Haywards Heath.

Fair point about the drivers, as they tend to come from bus companies in London.

I have had to give a driver directions before (was tempted to tell him to go straight through Stonepound crossroads without stopping, to avoid Hassocks and speed up my journey.

Something similar happend to me a while back whilst trying to get to Gatwick on one of their replacement bus services - a horror show:
We came out of the Station car park, down New England St, left up New England Hill, over the dials, down Davigdor Rd, round Hove Station, along Blatchington Road, up Sackville Rd briefly, left along Portland Road, right up Boundary Road, left along Old Shoreham Rd, right up towards Sainsburys, then right on to the A27, and finally left onto the A23.

We realised he had no idea where he was going by Hove Station and had already asked him why he didn't go right down New England Hill and the straight along London Road, his answer was "that he'd been told not to"
Anyway, basically from Portland Road we had to direct him to the A27 to get onto the A23. In a car its dead f***ing easy you just pull a U-turn anywhere and take the shortest route - however in a double decker bus on a Saturday afternoon you're manouvers are slightly limited. Luckily our flight was delayed otherwise we'd have actually missed it.

I'm now a National Express club card holder - f*** British Rail and their weekend bus service, never ever again!
