He is doing EXACTLY what everybody else would do.

But he's not. What he is doing isn't unique, granted, there are other examples of players angling for raises/moves away. However, MOST of the hundreds of top footballers over the years who have wanted to up their salaries a couple of years before their contracts expire go through the process in a much more professional manner. They don't do BBC interviews unsanctioned by their club, then complain that the club aren't protecting them from negative headlines. They don't allow their agents to pursue such tactics that lead to as much bad PR as Sterling's has caused.

Hang on NSC can't have it both ways.

It can't say he's a greedy money grabbing parasite one minute.
But also say if it all ended horribly tomorrow at least he'll have money to fall back on.

Erm. Yes they can.

How is saying "he is being greedy turning down a contract that will triple his current wage, because he thinks it isn't enough" in any way conflicting with "he already has earned so much money he can retire if the worst happens"? The fact he is 20 years old and has earned enough, should something bad happen, he can retire, reinforces how greedy it is that an increase of 285% is not enough.for someone who hasn't scored against a team above him, and still requires developing before coming close to the finished article.

Yet the more the exit of Steven Gerrard is hyped up the more uncertain the future seems for Liverpool FC, and in order to get Champions League football they'll need to finish above one of Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City and Man Utd - that doesn't look likely any time soon. /QUOTE]

It happened last season. They have played well for large parts of this season. I read that Liverpool are revamping their recruitment team so things could improve for them. It is not inconceivable that they can make the champions league again.

Strangely when 19 year old Luke Shaw told Southampton a year ago that he wanted to join another team there was none of this moralising and kerfuffle. I wonder why?

Sadly, I'm with you on this one.
He's barely started playing the game, won nothing and like any youngster, drifts in and out of games. He is lauded in the media and by numerous football watchers as a wonder kid, the new global superstar, where in fact, he is pretty ordinary at present. In time, he may develop into a top player but he is a long way off that at present.
Because of the lack of emerging talent around, a bandwagon has grown up around this lad and his agent has persuaded him that they can make a load of money, very quickly. Last season, when Liverpool were flying ( aided almost entirely by Saurez ) the pressure was taken off him. Now his team has returned to the ranks of the pretty average, he is being exposed. He is not mature enough to step up to the plate and has been found wanting. His agent isn't daft. He knows that the pressure on his player to perform at Liverpool is ramping up all the time and fans are starting to lose patience with him. Why not cash in your chips early before his stock starts to fall. It doesn't matter if he is warming the bench at another club, there is money in the bank. He can worry about winning things later.
In short, he is the most hyped-up, overrated young player of this generation and I genuinely believe that he is going to struggle to live up to expectation.

Agreed, funny thing is it was liverpool and brenden rodgers that hyped him up in the first place. Now he thinks he's bigger than what he is. ( at present )

Badly advised kid who will probably end up benched at a 'bigger' club, before fading and failing to realise his potential. He hasn't had a great season IMHO, very poor in front of goal in particular - missed loads of great chances. He's not even Liverpool's best player (Coutinho, by some distance).

Totally agree. I find it totally bizarre that people see so much in him. On the pitch he's nowhere near as good as some might have you believe. And off the pitch he seems to be a complete knob.

Aidy Ward is a classless act. And by association, so is sterling. It's Not so much he's bitten the hand that feeds him; more he's spat on it.

Lesson to be learnt here, he hasn't played much for United

No one has acted well, Liverpool leaked the amount he was being offered and they are the ones that let his contract run down.

It's not really running down his contract when they started negotiating with 2 1/2 years to go.

Scousers are in denial that they're a selling club these days.

Didn't they offer a small amount compared to superstars like borini?

Sakho is on 80k a week.
