9 Blackpool fans have been banned from attending football matches accross the country after racist chanting during the 0-0 draw against Preston.

I thought we had rid of that in our country

I hear they were calling one of the Preston players a brown bastard, the fact that PNE had Chris Brown playing up front for them is neither here nor there.

"Our blacks are blacker than your blacks"

I can't recall the game*, but it this was the shout from the North Stand at The Goldstone when a particularly obnoxious bunch of away fans were doing monkey-noises and abusing our black players.

I've rarely been prouder to support Brighton than on that day. Showed our true spontaneous anti-racisim colours in a witty and probably far too subtle way for the opposition fans.

*might have been Leeds?

just to play devils advocate ; it's easy to snarl at 'racism' from teams in the north west england/ west yorkshire area when you live in brighton and sussex.

of course it's difficult to stomache these attitudes but some people refuse to be objective about the social and cultural implications of mass immigration on specific, concentrated areas.

All Lancastrians are fuckwits - so isn't surprising that Blackpool are racist.

Once heard one of my own family (who live in Blackburn) tell off one of his kids because he refered to a Bangladeshi waiter as a "black".

"No" he said "'ee's not a black, ee's a fookin Paki" - charming.

Really??!!!

Maybe at football you don't hear it so much but I'm afraid as a country it hasn't gone away and will only get worse over the next few years.

Yes but a little ironically, if the area I'm working in right now (London's East End) it won't be made by a white person. The Afro Carribeans do not speak very highly of the Asians and vice versa.

Whilst on the subject of racism one of my chums went to a Chelsea away game in fancy dress the year they won the league at Bolton, he bought a monkey suit and wore suspenders and a bra, yet they wouldn't let him in the ground because his suit was 'racist'. To me that's taking it a little bit too far.

Definately. Sorry, I wasn't just referring to White's abusing Asians/Blacks but every race seems to have a problem with every other. As everyone gets pandered to more and more so the problems will increase.

With regards Lancashire I used to deal with a bloke in Rawtenstall who highlighted a few problems that they have. Yes it sounds bad if you live down here but a few stories he told me put things in perspective. In Rawtenstall for instance the village saved up and did some fundraising to build a little seating area with some paving and walling round it. Unfortunately it wasn't facing Mecca so down it came.

You could fill 100 books with stories like that. That is the pandering attitude that is causing the problems to get worse.

Considering Blackpool is so classy, Im surprised at the low rent fans they have.

Anyroad, what happened to all that nonsense about Homophobic chanting being treated the same as racist? if that nonsense was genuine then, oh lets just look at recent games, Doncaster, Orient, Tranmere and Gillingham fans would be subject to this ban as well.

Ok, I've in lived in London for most of the 25 years and I think these Blackpool "fans" are retarded filth. Is that suitably objective?

For how long have the Blackpool fans been banned from attending matches? Banning them for life is a little disproportionate. Remember the England-Turkey game at Sunderland a few years ago when fifty thousand England fans sang "I'd rather be a Paki than a Turk"? No bans ensued after that incident.

well i'm sure yes ... but i have always thought that working class londoners had always aspired to leave the parts of london which now have high immigrant populations (i'm thinking east end, wembley etc) after the slum clearances up to to the early 60's.

london has a far more advanced perspective on immigrants and racial tolerance (their race riots around 30 years ago?) i would think.

in parts of the north there are still factors in place that will cause social tension - some of these factors have been in place for decades (think un-employment, low standard of living, urban DEgeneration) - i used to have very strong roots with Bradford and it's not particularly pleasent how the asians have spread through communities - Bradford has always been an immigrant town with Irish, German and post war Polish, Ukrainian and Yugolavs/Slavs living in relative harmony and estbalishing themselves whilst integrating with the english.

i don't have the answers and it's horrible to see old biggots spouting rubbish from the Daily Mail but unless you've lived in Bradford, Burnley, Oldham etc then TRY and at least understand why they are angry.

please no 'thumbs up' smiley's from our more right-thinking posters on here like last time i posted, and i don't want this to sound like a BNP leaflet - i'm just urging objectivity on these matters.
