Question regarding Crawley Town FC

It was one of the designated new towns to house london overspill .

This.

Like many new, post war towns it happened to attract some migrants due to an abundance of social housing, and affordable private homes. It's worth pointing out though, the large Asian community that live in areas such as Langley Green, didn't move to Crawley to sponge off the state, they moved there to become home owners in one of the few palces that were affordable.

Also, despite what some of the narrow minded locals might suggest it is not over run with Non whites, today the population is made up of over 85% white people, which compared to similar sized london boroughs is fairly low.

i guess the fact it is a new town thats population exploded after the war with displaced londoners means it doesnt feel like a sussex town, i can sort of see why albion fans dont warm to Crawley as a town or a football club.

This. Got nothing against the football club but the town itself? In general (and I dont mean everybody) but it is generally full of scum, mainly dross from London).

It's funny but I have an irrational dislike of Crawley both the town and the team. I guess it stems from the fact that I've always seen Crawley as a bit of a cuckoo in the nest: geographically it's in Sussex, but spiritually it's in Essex (about where Dartford is). This dislike is compouned by the fact that it was never an Albion town, not even at the height of the 'Glory Years'.

And I just don't like the idea of having another League club in Sussex, certainly not one as geograhically close as Crawley. I can't think of any advantages - except perhaps we'll have a real local rival as opposed to having to use teams about sixty miles away. Barry Lloyd once said he hoped Crawley never got into the League as they'd "bury us for support". That might be a bit extreme but I don't want another club trying to draw support from mid-Sussex.

So sorry Crawley fans, I cheer every time you lose and hope that your current good form is just a temporary blip and that you'll soon go back to being shit. I don't feel like this about any other Sussex club - but that's irrational football hatreds for you!

You realise Dartford is in Kent?

I love the way people spout off about Crawley despite obviously not having a clue about the place.

Couldn't agree more.
My Office was in Crawley for 8 years & though I have never lived in the place, find it charming, inofensive & positively thriving in parts that Brighton doesn't reach. It's not that one is better than the other (though I prefer to live in Brighton), but both accommodate each other.

Crawley is certainly the only boom town in Sussex, albeit most of it on the back of Gatwick. It has a shopping centre that Eastbourne or Worthing would die for & has more green space in & around the town than any other Sussex town. Indeed did you know that Crawley's contribution to the millenium project was to have a circular pathway (mainly off road - a bit like the M25). It is 15 miles long & great for cross country runners like me!

Okay parts of Crawley are not very nice, but then hey, Brighton has its sink estates too?

Unemployment is negligible & the road system is very good with the M23 & M25 on the doorstep. The South Downs, Weald & North Downs are not far away & of course Gatwick is next door.

It doesn't have hordes of tourists pouring into the town in the summer (or the winter). The town boasts a good theatre & the best leisure centre in the south east.

I watch Crawley town FC when the Albion are away (sometimes). Okay only 3 or 4 times a season - and have never had any agro wearing my Albion shirt.
They have a lovely ground.

There is nothing to fear in wishing Crawley well & only everything to gain.
The Albion would benefit if they were a feeder club to us & we loaned players to them.

I wish Crawley every continued success & am proud to say that I am a BHA & Sussex football supporter. Good luck Crawley & I hope that you make the league. There is enough people in Sussex to watch two football league teams.

I only wish Crawley my whole hearted support

Shame you can't do the same for the Albion.

Anyhoo, I am largely indifferent to Crawley, both the town and the football club. I think the football club is an accident waiting to happen, the way they have been spraying cash around like a runaway muckspreader lately, and can only see that all ending in tears whether they reach the League or not.

But I do like their monster giant football.

I live in Crawley, support Brighton always have done. I have no affinity with CTFC- I keep an eye open for their result and thats about it.
The Albion is in my blood, and you'd be surprised just how many Albion live in Crawley
As for the town it has it's dodgy parts and some nice parts, much the same as Brighton and in fact nearly every town and city in the country.
Crawley provides a lot of jobs for the rest of sussex thanks to the Airport and Manor Royal.

Spot on. I was born in Crawley, have lived in Twickenham, Horsham and Reigate and will shortly be moving to Brighton - but I will always regard Crawley as my home town. It makes me laugh because this topic comes up on NSC about once a month and every time Crawley gets slated and the residents are referred to as wannabe pikeys etc etc. For the record I am not a pikey and neither are my mum, dad, sister or nephews!

Brighton is in my blood but I will always look out for Crawley's result second. To be fair, their manager is a bit of an arse - but he hasn't half bought some good players, and I'd be surprised if they didn't get promoted this season. Brighton and Crawley top of the league = happy days!

Spending 6 years going to school there is enough to make anyone hate the place. They were all Palace anyway.

They don't even need to padlock the benches down in Priory Park. Now that's posh!

Im indifferent to the football club but as a town they have to be doing something right. Affordable housing (incl first time buyers) large employment including the HQ of a number of companuies (high tech included), very few homeless compared to Brighton, great shopping and leisure facilities. Large areas of green space in and around the town, the list goes on...
