theres been a call from the groundsman in the land to stop batsmen scraping lines and generally making our life harder! especially when they start scratching a channel thats big enough to get a small BOAT in it......bloody annoying!

Perhaps the groundsman should paint three white lines from the stumps to the batting crease

we discussed that at the ECB Groundsmans Conference earlier this year, all sorts of regulations and crap to do with the lines though so it will probably never happen.

I still wouldn't have thought it make any difference. Holes would still be dug!
I remember an incident a number of years ago (must be over 25 years ago now!), I used help the full time groundsman at Horsham during the summer holidays. During the county game against Essex I was tasked with filling in the bowlers foot holes under the guidance of the late Peter Eaton. The following morning Derek Pringle bitterly complained about how hard the filler was and prior to his first ball proceeded to dig it all out with his studs. Peter was doing his nut. Justice was done first ball, Pringle ran in, turned his ankle in the hole, limped off never to return.

Crumbs, I can remember Peter Eaton from the early 80's when I used to play cricket with GWYLAN at Hove every lunch and tea time.

Never happy, always moaning, hated cricketers but ended up ECWB's main ground inspector.

I have to say he always said hello to me when I was at Hove and even invited into the groundsmen's shed for a cupper.

Border country.East Preston.
This is the first time in over a hundred years that the Aussies haven't started their tour at Arundel.

Does anyone know if it's true that Hambledon was the first cricket team/ground in the world?
