Question about the Welsh

How come the likes of Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham and any other welsh teams are in the English League. How come they are not in the League of Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland teams all play in their own leagues so why not the Welsh.

Just wondering like and it has nothing to do with the fact that we might still be in the cup if they did.

hhhhmmmmmmm!! think I'll pass on this one living in Wales and being truly English, and please don't get me started on the English Welsh thing and anyway most of the Welsh are egg chasers (another game stolen from us English) and that leaves just 3 decent teams to grace the league.
I have lots of respect for Wrexham .....but the other 2 can play where they like and it looks like Cardiff city could be playing in the league of Wales if the court case against them for 30 million is successful.

well, its on the border..........gretna did play in the english lower divisions before joining the scottish 3rd division

as for wrexham, cardiff and swansea(aswell as the likes of newport) there wasn't a welsh league established when they were founded and thus joined the 'english' league........which is actually called the 'football league'

i think

also, why is the premiership known as the 'epl' abroad(in english speaking places anyway)? what would happen if cardiff were promoted?

it isn't called the 'english' premier league here is it?!

Dublin, Ireland
Derry City play in the Eircom League and not the LOI... country borders are not hard and fast things as goes where you get to play football. Just look at AS Monaco!

Berwick has been a bit schizoid metaphorically about whether it was English or Scottish and there's a story that it was not mentioned in the treaty of Paris when the Russkis and Britain ceased the Crimean War and allegedly Berwick was still at war with Russia. Bit of a grey area apparently. A Russian diplomat signned a peace treaty with Berwick in the 1960s. Allegedly the mayor of Berwick said that "the Russians could sleep easily in their beds tonight".

Talking about North and South Wales.....a mate at Uni came from Port Talbot in Pembrokeshire (Little England to some Welsh people) where they had stopped talking Welsh centuries and centuries ago. He resented the pointy-headed North Wales inbreds (his words) with a passion and maintained it was a Port Talbot man that discovered New SOUTH Wales in Oz. The emphasis being that they didn't want to be associated with the North.

As it happened, another housemate was a Welsh-speaking North Welsh bloke from near Snowdonia. Jeez, the fights they used to have.

Buzzer, my olds live in Pembrokeshire, there are plenty of people there who speak Welsh as their first language...take a wander around Fishguard and you will hear it spoken as often or more than English, in the more rural areas it is often the only language spoken.

I live and learn. Must be around Port Talbot and the other more urban areas that my mate Phil spoke about. Cheers.
