A: Championship Manager...
The 16-year-old son of Rovers’ chief scout Paul Molesworth and a popular computer management game were two crucial factors in bringing Robbie Ryan to the Memorial Stadium, bristolrovers.co.uk can reveal today.
Robbie Ryan's move to Rovers came about thanks in part to Championship Manager. Paul was unveiled as the club’s new chief scout last month, and he has already played a major role in bringing a number of Rovers’ newest recruits to the club.
But it was his son, ironically enough called Ryan, who first flagged up the possibility of the former Millwall man joining the Pirates to his dad. Paul explained to www.bristolrovers.co.uk “I was at home going through a list of potential left-backs when my son Ryan said: ‘What about Robbie Ryan? He's out of contract.’ "My son had Robbie in his team on his Championship Manager computer game, and knew he was available. "I was ready to dismiss the idea at first because I never thought he'd come to us.
But I had a cup of tea and thought it over, and then decided we might as well give it a try.
"In the end it has worked out brilliantly because we've got him. But if it had not have been for my son and Championship Manager, I might never have thought of going for him as a target!”
