I've been testing Push Notifications on here for a little while and it all seems to work quite well, so tomorrow I'll turn it on for everyone else.

TL;DR - if you don't want Push Notifications, you won't have to have them!

Longer Notes:

1. You don't have to have push notifications on. You can both say "no" when first asked, or turn it off if you initially said "yes".

2. You can configure what you get push notifications for, so you're not bombarded. For example, turning off a notification of a post reaction (ie someone gives you a thumbs up) was what I did almost immediately.

3. Push notifications should work across most desktop browsers and Android devices. iOS users, like me, you're out of luck. At least I've not got it to work anyway, and Xenforo documentation suggests that's due to the way Apple configure their mobile browsers. It is working for me on Mac/Safari however.

4. I believe it's device-specific, so you can turn it on for desktop and leave it off for your phone, or vice versa. I can't verify that personally though (see 3 above)!

Just got the popup asking me if I want push notifications. So, I assume it worked.

Obviously I said no, because I hate push notifications.
Yes I said 'no' as well for the same reason, but apparently it's 'strongly recommended' so I can keep up-to-date with site activity. Still said 'no' so I guess I'll never know when the next Apple launch will be. :)

What’s a push notification?

is it something to use when your car won’t start?

(PS it was a serious question)
I just liked your comment as I had no idea what they were either.
Having read through the thread, i think you might get 2 of them now. 1 for the like and 1 for the reply.

Sorry!

Luddites together?

I’ve just googled it as well. It’s like BBC Sport telling me we’ve just scored when I’m sitting in the stand having seen it and messaging someone else about the mighty Solly March….. or Mitoma, or Ferguson.

I haven't received the popup. Can I enable it manually, had a quick look and maybe I'm being dim but can't see the setting?

It's in your account settings...

1. Click on your name (top right) to open the menu.
2. Click on Preferences
3. Scroll down to Push Notifications to enable/disable
4. Below that configure what you want notifications for. Alerts are what triggers the bell on the site, Push are browser alerts.

At which point, as my pocket vibrates, I ALWAYS turn to Jnr and say:-

"The Albion have scored".

Come on, who wouldn't want to be parented by laugh a minute Stat?

My loathing for push notifications has been tempered here by the fact I’m on iOS, so they won’t work anyway.

I do hope nobody at Xenforo is working on fixing this, I like things as they are.

1. It's not a Xenforo fix - it's to do with the way Apple allow browsers to work within iOS.
2. Even if they did "fix it", you just leave it turned off.

At first I'd thought a Peterborough Utd thread had somehow landed on NSC.

Thanks. For some reason my Push Notifications are blocked even though I have a Pixel 6.

It's me that's stupid. I'd had the chrome setting blocked.
