Officer said I'd been doing 3 or 4mph over the limit.

Dropped my mate at the bus stop outside boots, then tried to get in front of the traffic quickly.

He literally said 'You'd have twatted some party-goer if you carried on'.

No hard feelings for the man, he's doing his job.

Just a bit rattled, as normally 30-34mph is allowed if it's unavoidable.

"3 or 4" - does he not have any actual evidence of what speed you were doing?

I thought the fact I knew I was a bit over the speed limit lol. I wasn't going to argue with that.

If he has no proof I'd challenge it.

Human's perception of speed amongst crowds is extremely faulty.

I didn't get points or a fine or anything, I just wondered why he looked pissed off.

Really, I thought I'd be ridding the world of drunk-for-fun students, now that the thought crosses me. :lolol:

Worthing
Some cabbie told me the other day about a plan to introduce '20 is plenty' in Worthing, where most of the roads throughout town are restricted to 20mph. I have no opinion either way about this, as a non-driver, but I thought this might prove interesting for you NSC nutters.

In fact, as a pedestrian, I endorse it.

Steady on, he didn't say he got a ticket or anything. It was presumably just a bit of advice.

There are so many pissheads staggering around West Street late at night that even driving at the 30mph limit MIGHT be construed as inappropriate in the event of someone being hit by a car. Classic case of driving to the conditions. Presumably the officer just wanted him to think about it for a second. Seems to have worked eh?

If we all had to drive at 20 we'd never bloody get anywhere.

when you get up to the lights and they go to amber!

Do you know what 'unavoidable' means? The amber light is a warning that a reds coming, not a challenge to you, not a cosmic power preventing you from slowing to a stop at the red, and waiting for the next green. You actually can still avoid speeding, even when the lights go amber.

Whenever I get in the car

Heh.

sounds like he had a word for the manner and appropriatness of your driving rather than the actuall speed.

Out of interest, when is breaking the speed limit unavoidable?
