I'm meant to be meeting a mate for a bite this evening and don't want to stray too far from my elderly Dad's in Southwick as I'm looking after him for a few days .

Any recommendations for somewhere that has decent beer and nice food?

Amsterdam is reasonable.

Best general pub food in Shoreham is the Bridge.

If you fancy something a bit different then have Thai at the Sovereign.

The Swiss and the Amsterdam are Brake Bros - out of a bag food. If you are considering these you may as well get Maccy D's

I've just been reading about the Sov on Trip Advisor. It was a quiet traditional pub last time I went there decades ago! Do they do Thai every night?

They've done decent Thai for quite a while now. It has a "traditional" pub feel, usually quite busy. Not sure if it's every night, I thought it was.

If you fancy going a little bit further afield - try the Glaziers Bar. Pizza & a pint for a fiver and the service is excellent - almost one to one I've heard

I would say Suters Yard has the best grub, although both the Bridge and Sov are also top notch.
Suters is more of a wine bar, but usually serve a decent pint as well.

Very funny. I actually Googled that in my ignorance trying to find out how further afield it was. :moo:

Gawd knows. Let me know if you find anywhere OK. Marlipins and Sovereign can be crowded as both are small pubs. Marlipins has got an eating room that was not well used.

Thank you to everyone for responding - despite me cocking up the thread title!

I think I'll park up and have a look at Suters Yard, The Bridge or The Sovereign.

Shoreham has certainly changed since I was living there in the 80s. I would have been hard pressed to come up with any meaningful suggestions in those days.

My parents were in the Swiss Cottage the other week and said the food was terrible. It is obviously quite easy not to be able to cook (reheat) lasagna and chips. Always had fond memories of this place as a kid loved running around in the garden on a sunday all hyper on coca-cola.

Try Brio next to Shoreham railway station. Italian food very good when I've been there.
