I don't really want to get involved in this arguing about our fanbase but I think you're being a bit unfair really. The things you've mentioned bar the seat politics are done by everyone. Old blokes seem to spend more time on their phones than anyone else. Some unassuming 60 something in front of me at Fulham was on his phone for probably the entire match (looking at escorts btw!). The beer thing you mentioned is a good solution no? I wish more people did that, it would help the queues. Complaining that these young fans slag off our players is so ironic. Have you seen this board after we lose. Do you think they're all on here or something?

I have to say one of these groups was next to me at Arsenal away and were the only ones in the area trying to get an atmosphere going. I'm more bothered by the people who stand for 90 minutes in silence with their arms crossed and tut at people for singing too loud.
Nah. The few small groups of t***s are abusive to fellow fans and don’t give a sh*t about whether they are impacting the enjoyment of others. It’s the nature of the slagging off of the players that’s different to what’s on here. Very different from someone on their phone or tapping away an angry post on their keyboard when they get home. The beer thing is a right pain if you’re in the same row (I can manage to go 90 mins without a beer so the queues don’t affect me, so maybe I have a different view on that).

Ridiculous comparison. I'm sure 'Knollsy' isn't whiter than white but on that occasion he was defending others.
He was standing on a staircase punching Alkmaar fans who were trying to invade that end.

If defending others is a mitigation for using violence, where do you draw the line? Fans are at risk from injury from missiles being thrown just the same as a punch.

As I said, inconsistent.

The West Ham bloke was literally fending off Alkmaar fans to stop them getting in amongst a family zone. He was actually defending people.

The knobend at AEK throwing punches at some herberts across the netting was doing nothing whatsoever to stop their fans lobbing stuff over. It had zero impact. It made no difference whatsoever.

The truth of the matter was, he just fancied dishing out a few slaps. He wasn't preventing anything, or defending himself, or anyone else. Just an opportunity to punch a few people for no particular reason other than to look 'ard in front of his mates.

I was in the upper tier (practically central) and saw AEK fans trying to get at the Brighton fans, and our fans goading them.

As the chap literally in front of me got hit by a bottle full of water that was thrown, I feel some of what you’re describing doesn’t entirely correlate with what I saw…. I thought given the objects being thrown, from both sections of AEK our reaction was fairly mild…

Perhaps you just had a better view than me of the people at the front.
I think he is just a bit of an idiot rather than a better view - as I stood next to the perspex upper tier on the right & saw some goading on both sides (nothing beyond ordinary @ a PL game), before an AEK fan tried to snatch a BHA flag; and various missiles - cups of water, other liquids available, chucked at those in the very front row.

55 years old FFS

When I was a teenager at the Goldstone and in my first flush of testosterone and alcohol, there were always a few older blokes hanging around trying to impress us mouthy teenagers. Thought they were weirdos then and my opinion certainly hasn't changed over the years :wanker:

Defending others ? Self defence ? Getting a few digs in ? Stitched up by Sussex plod ? Standing his ground ? Equally pathetic and Desperate :lolol:

AEK tried to take liberties and got a few slaps.

Incorrect. He was trying to save a woman’s life (apparently).

It wasn’t a good one, only €5 I prefer my Ajax one, a much better fit, but that was official (€20)
Me and my Mrs bought a scarf each, we wanted to drink in some local bars pre match (we knew we’d stand out, it was more of a peace offering!)
