Very pretty, but the poor button configuration make it a SHITE games machine. Most studios have pulled out of making UMD films as no one bought them, and too big to be an MP3 player. Got mine in Xmas 2005 and played on it for about two weeks.

Far better off with a DS Lite. Not as sophisticated or powerful, but far more fun.

i'll buy it off ya

My PSP has version 3.03 OE-C which is a custom firmware which gives you all the latest functionality but also able to play downloaded games, I have a 4Gb mem stick with all the latest games on it for free and its ace.

My one came with 2.71 firmware emulated with devhook. I've been too nervous to upgrade to 3.03 OE-C as I don't want to brick the machine...frankly I've only encountered one game demanding a firmware upgrade so if it ain't broke..!

No one has mentioned that with the new 3.03 firmware you can now play Playstation 1 games.

With 3.03 OE-C you don't need devhook or anything like that you drag the ISO images into the ISO directory and they appear in the games menu under the memory stick. That was enough of an incentive for me to upgrade in itself oh and you can play PS1 games too.

Oh really? You've just persuaded me to upgrade, in that case.

With 4gb cards going for just £22, it's working out to be a cheap handheld.

Lil' Coach likes his PSP but (as mentioned above) he tends to buy games that he normally would buy for the PS2. Longer lasting games rather than short life ones are better - football manager games keep him amused on long journeys.
DS Lite is appreciated by Girl Coach as there are lots of 'pink' games and kiddie games on them - nintendogs, tamogotchi etc. I like the card games you can get on them.
Can recommend both really. Make sure you check on www.find-games.co.uk for the cheapest game prices around.
Use www.quidco.com for cashback too.

Also have a DS lite but the games on that are aimed at 10 years olds mainly so its shit so the PSP gets more of a look in. I never use my PS2 now either.

I am currently playing Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops which is PSP only and is a brilliant game.

tinx, i am still running v1.5 on my psp (downgraded from v2.0 the day of purchase). would you mind posting a link where i can find 3.03 OE-C as I like the sound of that alot. i find devhook to be a bit of a pain sometimes. cheers.

No probs,

You can download it form here:-

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=46034
(Its a genuine copy as its been posted by Dark_Alex who actually writes all this custom firmware)

Just follow the instructions in the README and you should be fine.

DISLAIMER:- If you brick your PSP don't blame me, I followed the instructions and it worked fine for me.

If I want a game I download it for free and then it all works beatifully and saves me 30 quid each time. Plus the custom firmware allows you to overclock your psp to make everything work much faster as well.

Yes if you're not careful. If you follow the instructions to the letter then very little can go worng it when people down follow th einstructions that things go wrong

Argh, I can't bloody update my PSP, I've followed the instructions, downloaded all the necessary files, downloaded the flasher, downloaded everything needed and it doesn't work.

F**K it, I'm sticking with 2.71.
