One of my sons, 35, has had his struggles with depression and low self-esteem, but at heart he is a gentle and loving character. Today I received this from him as a fathers day gift. He had dug up a cruddy file in his garden, turned it into a knife blade, fabricated the handle, made the holster. He tried french polishing the handle (shown) but found it marked too easily so refinished it in a natural finish. I couldn't be prouder - it's my 'Rosebud'

The time and attention and care to learn that and then make it is fantastic and I'm not surprised you're proud. Well done to your son, and hope he enjoyed the process and the focus away from his struggles benefitted him.
And this !
