“Sainsbury’s has apologised to the woman involved and offered to make a £100 donation to charity. However, the Students’ Union does not feel this is an adequate response.”

The union is also calling on the supermarket to introduce mandatory training on equality and diversity issues, to make a “substantial” donation to an LGBT charity and to issue a public apology.

It was the oaf of a security guard who asked them to stop. Now the Union is turning into something WAAAAY out of proportion.

I find it hard to believe that a mother complained and a security guard intervened if it was a peck goodnight. Personally I don't mind watching two women snogging, as my internet history will no doubt attest, but there is a time and a place.

was it even the security guards fault if he was acting upon a complaint? and was the kiss as innocuous as claimed? and was any of this incident really "abhorrant" as the union spokesman frothed?

top binfestery on the comments, ranging from nectar point outrage to way cant you talk about travellers. :lolol:

According to the early morning copy of The Argus, Sussex Police were said to be 'investigating as to whether a hate crime had taken place'!

If any fit girlies are taking part in this demo with their girlfriends could they please let NSC know in advance?

Fair point. Two possible scenarios as I see it. No other possible combination of events could have occurred....

Scenario one: Annoying couple snog eachothers faces off two feet in front of a 5 year old child and mother. Woman asks them politely to stop. They tell her to "FAK ORF YOU OLD BITCH". Woman asks security guard to have a polite word. Security escorts them off the premises. Security guard buys child a toy and explains, whilst kissing is ok, that type of behavior in a public place is unacceptable regardless of your sexuality.

Scenario two: Innocent peck on the cheek between couple. Looney woman screams "THAT'S DISGUSTING!" at them. Security guard comes over. Screams "You two LEZZERS better leave!" Throws them out. Security guard then treads on a puppy and clubs the nearest seal.

How will they identify the woman who made the complaint to the security guard ?

All supermarkets should have one of those signs seen near swimming pools saying "no dive bombing, petting, running, etc". Dive bombing could be interesting in the frozen food section - ouch!

This kind of thing seems to happen a lot now - I blame Twitter and its legions of outraged people with nothing better to do.

The idea that Sainsbury's in Brighton is institutionally homophobic just doesn't stand up to scrutiny - no retailer is in the business of antagonizing the wealthiest segment of its customer base!

The seaside.
Some members of staff saying the female security guard involved is gay herself. Wouldn't be a huge surprise if so (security guard being a stereotypically butch/tomboy type job for a woman) but rather changes the complexion of the incident. Actually makes it worse. Possibly jealousy involved - not hard to image that two students would be younger/prettier than the security lady, who threw them out in a jealous rage. We don't know the sexuality of the mother who made the complaint either - good chance she's gay too and her kid was via a surrogate gay male friend. You'll notice there are no male protagonists at all (even the kid's almost certainly female), and it wouldn't come as a surprise if the complaining customer and the security guard are a couple. The whole thing is most likely part of a long-running lesbian drama being played out in the aisles of New England Road...
