Those stats me **** all for where he is played. Makalele got 2 goals in over 100 appearances in the premier league. I suppose you think he is shit as well? If you look at his stats he is good. If you watch you will see he is good. He is not a poor player and if we replace him we will be getting a seriously good midfielder.

Makelele was a specialist DM like Stephens and Matic, told to sit in front of the CB’s, full stop.

Propper is a creative ACM.

I agree with him, and any criticism of Propper is slammed down on NSC, and with regards to Ryan, a good goalkeeper, but who will also kick the ball out for a throw in once or twice a game and is not good with his feet. This is Championship quality.

Burnley got a worthy draw with Liverpool today and Southampton beat Man City so they are not as untouchable as we have made them look. The least I expect is for us to be competitive even if we lose.

I'm not even confident that we will get any points from the Southampton and Burnley games based on recent performances against the same sides.

Sorry. No criticism of Propper allowed here [emoji6]

I think you're getting a little precious about it.

You must understand by now that we have lots of fans who rank a twirl and a pirouette far and away above discipline and concentration.

The prime example of this is Davy Propper, who will often try something cute and will lose the ball twice out of three. The one time it comes off not only makes some people forget the occasions it didn't (often putting us in serious danger of conceding), but they will also start threads about it and upload gifs.

I don't think Hughton ever players an ACM though. Unless you define Gross being Murray as one, either way Propper has never or exceedingly rare played that position.

Reading an interesting Dutch website (in English), at PSV Propper was an effective box to box CM, creative, with good set piece delivery. Little mention of tackles, or positioning to shield the CB’s.

Potter’s tried Propper as a DM often this season, it’s had a good run for its money now, it hasn’t worked.

Push him forward, leaving a specialist DM who doesn’t mind the unglamorous donkey work.

I was f-wording loudly at the telly as well......but starting a thread? That Propper will read ?

**** that.

This is a Brighton and Hove Albion fans' forum; if you are suggesting that a fan shouldn't start a thread commenting on a player's performance (good or bad), then I really don't know what the purpose of this forum is. And what the feck does "That Propper will read?" have to do with anything? If Davy Propper doesn't want to read criticism after a poor display, I would suggest the solution is for him not to venture onto the main club's fans' forum, rather than restricting what fans can or can't post. Should the Argus not print a report on Monday, or should they artificially inflate their player ratings, just so some highly-paid footballer doesn't have his feelings hurt?

Anyway, it's not worth arguing further over - have a beer, put this result to the back of your mind and enjoy your weekend

Fair point....just not something I would do. It’s Team game and I wouldn’t single out anyone. He wasn’t the only one off his game tonight.......Potter got it all wrong (and he’ll probably admit it)

Cheers [emoji106][emoji485][emoji485]

I would not disagree. But we need to either develop or buy that player as we don't have it.
All I am saying do not judge a player using stats for a different position to what he plays in.
Muapay makes almost no headed clearances from corners. But using that stat to say he is a crap player is nonsense.

For the last games, let’s go back to basics and play Stephens and/or Bissouma as DM’s or fulfilling that role amongst other things.

There’s no need for Propper to be 20 yards out in vulnerable to us open play, making hazardous passes.

Play him advanced of the others.

Brighton / Hove actually
Southampton beat Man City. On another day they could have been beaten 5-0.
We got a clean sheet against Leicester they got beat 9-0.
I’m disappointed about tonight but overall we’ve done well since the restart. Hopefully we will play well against them.

:lolol: But Southampton didn't get beat 5-0, they won 1-0, and since that 9-0 defeat and looking like easy relegation fodder they are playing good football and haven't looked back without any new signings. Fortunately we may have got us the points needed for safety but I wouldn't rule out Bournemouth getting 6 points from their next 3 games and leaving us in a relegation battle on the last day of the season. Their result tomorrow will be key.

Despite his poor performance he unfortunately got a set of qualities that would be missed if he was absent. Very prone to doing easy mistakes, but also the most complete CM in the club. A Davy Pröpper who is not Davy Pröpper should be the biggest priority in the transfer window.

It’s clear he’s not a defensive midfielder, all I ever hear about Propper is how well he plays for Holland, where he plays a lot further forward in the 10 role. Bissoumma was so much better tonight with 3 or 4 players around him and would still keep the ball.

Makelele was a specialist DM like Stephens and Matic, told to sit in front of the CB’s, full stop.

Propper is a creative ACM.

He played two of his 17 international appearances in the AMC role.

In the other games as well as in the majority of his Eredivisie games he played in the "Xavi" role - a slightly defensive minded two-way midfielder playing next to a pure DMC (Busquets, to continue the analogy) and a pure or purish AMC (Iniesta).

His main issue is not his position, but that he is not shaped to play in a high tempo league like the PL. He would be just fine in i.e. the Serie A.

Absolutely spot on. Guy is glorious at times in that role but it's uniquely different in this league...absolutely no time on the ball, and that is were he loses it.

Although in this league, he played a part in defeating CP a few times. The one you would’ve enjoyed the most of course, ten men Albion winning 3-1.

It's almost like you know more about the Palace results than me.
Imagine wasting your time bullying people on an internet forum and memorising Palace scores.

Being a former midfielder myself, I’d love to see Pröpper succeed.
But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he’s just a modern day equivalent of Robert Codner.

I’m sorry if my opinions offended you somehow. But I stand by them, Propper is average at best and Matty Ryan is a substandard PL keeper. Just my opinion, and that’s on the basis of the season not tonight.

It didn't offend me at all. Your reaction to any comment disagreeing with you amused me. I hadn't realised everyone had to agree with you
