This is eaxclty the problem with people on here. Propper is bang average, Him and a few others is why we are fighting relegation every season. If we want to aim for a top 10 finish then players like him need to be moved on including Stephens. I will also say Mooey and Gross. All to slow

I thought the problem wasn't fighting relegation, due to not having top 10 players, but getting relegated due to Potter and poor defending

Can't disagree with much of that. However, the niggling thought is just maybe the way we are playing Propper is not getting the best out of him. But that does mean we have to commit to working that out as we can't just carry him on a ' he might just perform ' basis.

Gross has faded badly and Mooy looks a little heavy and even I could run quicker.

I don't hate any of our players but I think that Bissouma has been the best central midfield performer since the restart and that Alzate alongside him will be the best pairing next season.

Where would that leave Propper? Playing him further forward, where he performed well for PSV and plays for Holland, doesn't seem to be an option that our coaching staff considers, so I imagine he would rather move on to Ajax or somewhere if that interest is still there.

Biss and Alzate is indeed a very exciting central midfield partnership.
I'm not sure I'd trust them both together from the outset.

I'd certainly trust them enough to offload either Stephens or Propper, for me the fall guy is Stephens despite Propper returning from lockdown somewhat off the pace.

I think our midfield is where need need to strengthen, but also think that this season has been wildly disrupted.

Alzate looked very good but has had the injury to deal with,
Bissouma has improved a lot but lacks any end product,
Propper was playing very well pre-lockdown and has returned poorly,
Gross started well but has faded,
Mooy was superb until January but has been generally woeful since the return,
Stephens has continued to do his job well but is getting further from the required standard.

Of course there's also the option of playing Ben White as a holding midfield player next season. Apparently he has excelled there for Leeds when asked.

No not at all (although I get why it could be read that way), just wildly inconsistent. I think the massive run of games hasn't helped because we chop and change every time and haven't been able to give anyone a proper tilt at becoming consistent in midfield.

With almost all of the players above, we've seen how good they can be, so I'm hoping a full pre-season will straighten out the kinks and force some more consistency back into each of them.

I agree but there is still improvement to be made. Propper got a lot of flack in this thread for turning the ball over twice this season, last night Bissouma turned it over on the edge of our box a lot and gave away a dangerous free kick.

OMG I decide I'm not going to mention Propper anymore then we get comments like this.

He turned the ball over 3 times in 5 minutes alone against Man City that nearly ended up in us being 4-0 down instead of 1-0.

There is a valid reason he's been getting criticism lately.

That there is, quite how that instantly becomes 'not good enough' 'get rid' is beyond me, as usual.

The majority of the flack he was getting was based on the mistake against Liverpool. Don't get me wrong, he had a stinker against City. But as I mentioned, Bissouma also turned the ball over 3 times in 5 minutes yet is heralded as our best midfielder.

We're operating on a tiny budget compared to the big clubs, we've got no chance of signing standout midfielders. I'm not sure why we play Davy as a holding mid when he's done so well for his national team as an attacking one but hey ho.He's played 33/36 games this season for us and we're staying up so he must be doing something right. His strike v Wolves @ home springs to mind.

Hell I'd take signing David Brooks over the summer as a real coup for us where we are now. TB's approach of signing youth prospects/unknowns is risky, but you do unearth the occasional Lamptey with it!

FWIW I honestly don't think anyone who wants Propper out knows the slightest thing about football.

He's one of the most complete midfielders to wear a Brighton shirt ever. Playing a reserved role rather than getting forward but as has been mentioned before he can certainly play as a CAM as he has done for Holland. We're lucky he's great at both.
He played for Holland when I was in Amsterdam about 6 months ago and the Dutch greats were eulogising about his performance after that game but perhaps the self-styled NSC cognoscenti know more about football that Rijkaard, Koeman et al...

For the record I do agree he's been off the pace since lockdown. But form is temporary and class is permanent. He'll be back.
The question to ask is this. If we booted him out who do we replace him with ? A more complete midfielder will cost north of £35 mill. I actually can't think of anyone less than a superstar I'd replace him with.

HI Davy !?

I think for what he brings us you could replace with an U23.
