I thought when Propper came here he had lots of potential and I have seen the occasional silky touch, but he seems to have plateaued for us. When I watched the way Oliver Norwood played for Sheffield United yesterday with inch perfect passing and getting a save out of the keeper., he was everything our midfield is missing; a creative goal threat midfielder play maker and he bossed Liverpool in that area.

Hughton and the club let a very good player go in Norwood, and whilst both Propper and Stephens are okay in parts, are very average with no goal scoring technique. I don't see them being part of our future in the Premier League tbh.

Having said that and after a poor performance Chelsea were quite lucky with their goals; a penalty and a deflection which you cannot legislate for.

I think you're grasping at straws if you think Norwood is a PL player, or anywhere near as good as Propper. Fulham shipped him out as soon as they went up, too.

Sheffield United are on a run at the moment, as many newly-promoted clubs do. I don't think they'll do anywhere near as well after Christmas - 4th from bottom is the absolute best they'll get.

You heard it here first!

Yes I am going one the game against Liverpool and he bossed the midfield but it is probably just luck not talent as you say.

Lol good player Norwood and as you say had a very good game against Liverpool, having been involved in three promotions he seems determined to make the most of his opportunity in the PL.
However I think Propper is better than you give him credit for, he certainly went down hill during the second half of last season, but then who didn’t...but this season to date he’s been back up there...imho

My apologies.

Sheffield United had 30% possession, and Norwood got ratings of 6, 6 and 7 from the 3 online reports I read. Yes, he is talented.

All we know for certain is that Propper and Stephens are not goal threats. In the Shampton game Propper had a good opportunity to get a 20 yard shot on goal, under no pressure, and he kicked it over the bar and he hung his own head in shame out of embarrassment. Both him and Stephens are very one paced and if this fatigue rumour is true he hasn't got the fitness for the energy level that Potter needs.

Norwood; from what I understand was part of Fulhams promotion campaign but got moved on after they spent the £100m. He has now been promoted with Sheffield United and is actually playing a part in their season. It's easy to just put it down to a one off good game against Liverpool but we can return to this topic later on in the season.

Norwood always looked bang-average for us. Stephens and Propper are far better footballers in my opinion.

Norwood is doing great for Sheff Utd right now, and good luck to him. It really is a great start they've had to the season. Like Huddersfield and Cardiff before them, Sheff Utd are by all means a Championship squad of players playing full of confidence and riding on the promotion wave. They were beyond lucky to win at Goodison park last week. I fully expect them to tail-off and be in and around relegation come the end of the season.

Regarding Propper - I can't fault him at all so far this season. He is such an important player for us. I really don't think it is any coincidence that he was absent for our worst performance of the season so far.

The club don't seem to be as open about players injuries anymore.

Pretty well all our injuries seem to stretch to months these days. Maupay made a quick return but other than that?

Bissouma is going to struggle with Potterball I feel given the need to retain possession is far more crucial than exciting bursts from midfield. Stephens has shown an incredible step up in his game to rival some of the top players in terms of passes made and passes completed, and with Propper alongside, they do appear to be critical to our tactics in that midfield area. Hope he's back for Saturday.

I saw the whole game, and I really can't believe anyone considers that performance, "bossing the midfield". He used the ball well and did fire off a good shot, which was going wide, but drew a save from the keeper. He played ok, he'd be getting 7s across the board if he played like that for us. The system obviously suits him, sitting at the base of a 3 man midfield. Loads of options on the ball to keep it moving, which is his strength.

He's fine, but he's no Davy Pröpper, Dale Stephens or Yves Bissouma. I'd prefer him over Aaron Mooy though!

I watched the whole game and he was a pest.

If the keeper didn't get a touch the ball would have hit the post which I appreciate as a good effort. Stephens and Proppers efforts; the keepers don't even have to bother going for and only draw groans from the crowd. All midfield players should get their shots on target from 20 yards because that is the only type of shot always falls to them. As I said on here earlier; they are good in parts but they are not a goal threat. That is my disappointment with them in general and I just feel that they have plateaued.

Anyway time will be the judge of this and I will always hope that they prove me wrong.

One of the reasons that contribute to a lack of goals from our midfield is the lack of speed through our transition phases into the final third. Last season and into this season the amount of times we check back, assess options, try to control the attack must be a high proportion of our attacks leading to opposition players getting back into a good shape, leading to that second ball on the edge of the area getting snuffed out. Burnley equalised because of the speed of their transition from their half, 2 or 3 passes to a shot and a goal – I really don't see us doing this that often, hence very few chances for Stephens or Propper to get shot opportunities.

It's not like Stephens and Propper are blazing really good edge of the D chances over every game, the odd half chance maybe, but not clear cut get it on target chances. Potter has a lot of work on his hands to turn Potterball into something our forward players can turn into fast instinctive chance creating football.
