Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Orientate is one, and just heard someone say interpretate !!!

Is this the modern way, just stick an ...ate on the end of everything ?

Strangely, I already Googled "disoriented or disorientated" for a piece I was writing this morning, but got no clear answer.

Just suggestions that one is more British and the other more American, or that one is a verb and the other an adjective.

It sounds better without the "ate", though.

Orientate is another term for orient, hence the unnecessary ...ate.

To orientate to me means to point something in a certain direction.

Orientated means it's pointing in a certain direction.

It's similar to the word velocity in some respects.

With my knowledge of English I would say interpretate is just a complete misspelling/misuse of a word. Proved by the fact that when I wrote it I had a red squiggle under it saying it's a spelling mistake.

Interpret is a word.

Interpreted is the other.

Interpretate isn't a word.

It's like people who write "defiantly" on social media. Then others sometimes correct them and say its "definately". When it's DEFINITELY. As in FINITE. End of.

And I was a grade C in GCSE English Language in 1995.

so what word would you use instead of 'orientation' ?

Good point.

Orient
Orientation
Violate
Violation not violatation
Rotate
Rotation not rotatation

English is a funny old language. I often consternate over it.
