It's tough to accept opinions on work place bullying from some contributors, on this thread.

I think this says a lot about the culture in Westminster and in Politics in general, so many behaviours have been normalised that wouldn't be acceptable in any other professional field.

Woman from ethnic minority and poor background fights to impose her ideas on a load of intransigent men in grey suits aka whinging snowflakes.

Your 10 hours to late to claim that particular bit of whataboutism as your own

Detested right wing public school educated Tory Prime Minister rejects an accusation made against Ms. Patel by a son of Baron Allen of Kilmahew, a late middle aged old Harrovian white man, and gives his full support to a BAME woman instead.

Good god (pick one of your own choice) - what on earth is the world coming to? NSC meltdown incoming - Johnson supporting a BAME woman against an adverse report by a white public school male - completely against the accepted stereotypes, eh? Shocking!

The Tories, yet again, prove themselves to be morally bankrupt. Is anyone actually surprised? ???

Not surprising that her department did not always support her you can only push people so far.

So what were people expecting people to say to her ? Telling your boss that they need to improve their manners has only one result and its not improved manners. That said I heard people had mentioned things about her manner to her....

She was warned three times.

But she claimed yesterday she humbly apologises because she had no idea she was upsetting people.

So, a bully and a liar. Who knew?

When you join the arm forces you expected to get shouted at, bollocked, kit chucked out of windows, running around parade grounds, beasted and generally abused. It’s part and parcel of the job and is in many cases very funny. I miss the piss taking ...

As far as I’m aware thats not a prerequisite for the civil service. I’m not a fan of the civil service but being a **** to your staff isn’t acceptable.

Actually I am. I may not share the tory view of the world but I don't ever recall that the entire tory leadership modus operandi was to back populist nonsense then just tell outrageous lies about it, and defend the loyal liar underlings come what may. I doubt that the backbenchers are happy, and I expect they are pursuing the 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer' strategy. I can't believe they are all willing to worship the devil just to con their way to another 5 years. I suspect we are living through another political aberration. I hope so, anyway.

Anyone who thinks that Patelgate is OK is a seriously twisted individual. Incidentally a couple of red faced loonies and one stinker in his squat have come out of the gammon box to play the man rather than the ball, as predicted, and I have done what I promised. Thick or what? ???

Let's face it some civil servants need a kick up the arse now and again, it's common knowledge some are anti government policies???

I don't normally bother to reply to anything you chip in with, but on this occasion I will make an exception.

That is probably true about Civil Servants as it must be difficult when as a civil servant you have spent years, or possibly even decades setting up best practice for a department, when along comes a young upstart who only has eye on their political progression and want to change everything to make themselves look good, safe in the knowledge that at the next cabinet reshuffle they will be off to bigger and better things, leaving behind a shambles!

I have experienced this in the real world, so doubtless this goes on at Westminster...

I think you’re confirming you’re not what HWT is referring to as Gammon. The massive outrage at supposed antisemitism when never in their lives previously having any interest in antisemitism whatsoever I think is the point there.

Never argue with folk who feel sufficiently moved to self-identify, whether it be as a Boris supporter or defender of Patel, or someone too thick to understand what I'm going on about. I'm accepting our red-faced friend on face value and acting accordingly

The only reason that Johnson hasn't been knifed in the back over his numerous disasters is that no intelligent Tory MP would want the vomit coated, poisoned chalice that is the role of PM at the moment.

He's surrounded himself with thickos, criminals and liars knowing that whatever feckwittery he does next, none of them want his job.

As you say, there are actually plenty of decent Tory backbenchers and they must be feeling like Mitt Romney right now (imagine Romney actually seeming sane, sensible and democratic back when he was running against Obama? That's where we are at the moment!).

Old former skin head writes post after post defending a tory home secretary caught serially breaching her workplace code of conduct. The defence is that tory Bercow was also a bully. OK, mate....

Mussolini does something racist? Das Reich would defend him by saying that racism is OK because Hitler was also racist. Brilliant logic

Depressingly true. No point in trying to explain facts to a moron troll though. Especially one who claims to be a patriot while wholeheartedly endorsing everything that makes Britain worse.

He'd fit in better in the USA, but they don't have decent social security benefits or free healthcare so he wouldn't actually like it at all. Also "too many blacks".

Totally agree seeing as the OP is one of the biggest bully’s on here!

Well I've read some absurd stuff on here, and have chipped in with writing a fair share of me own, but that accusation is a bit head-mental non? Other than his Tourette-ish defence of despicable and/or obscure 80's pop acts, Harry Wilson's tackle seems to me to be a thoroughly tolerable sort. And even on rare occasions likeable

My favourite bit is when they've had their red faced, jumping up and down toddler rant, been "bullied" by some facts and then accuse the calm person dishing out the facts of being angry.

You couldn't make this shit up.

You've worked at some shit companies then.

I have experienced two occasions when a bully has gone nuts in the office ffing and geffing - before too long they were escorted from the premises. A good employer will not tolerate bullying.

As for the armed forces, that is indeed a grey area, clearly the needs of a soldier are different to a junior civil servant and the drilling has to be intense, although there have been several cases of apparent suicides after recruits have been bullied and humiliated...

Oh and Deepcut might be of interest to you

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaths_at_Deepcut_army_barracks

Now there's one for the conspiracy theorists, oh wait, the people involved weren't famous enough, just some poor saps that couldn't hack being bullied...! Possibly...

You’ve lived in a bubble more like. People get cross and lose their tempers all the time. Because they’re human. Next you’ll be telling us you’ve never heard swearing at football. Why you bringing army suicides into things? Or are you linking shouting at some one to bullying to suicide. That’s a hell of a jump. I merely pointed out shouting in some work places is normal and to be expected. Of course today you’ve got to mould the entire institution around the individual made of snow, not fit the other way round.
