I thaught there are a limit to the amount of people that are allowed to big events in the city (such as the FBS gigs and Party in the Park when it was still about).

How come Pride can still have 60-100,000 people there??

Anyone looking forward to seeing chocolate coloured condoms festooning the shrubberies of Preston park this weekend along with the gay pornagraphic leaflets scattered liberally around the area despite them claiming it's a "family" event

Can't wait :nono:

Jevs, you just know that will upset a few on here. I fully agree with you though.

Beachdown has taken years to sort out and got many restrictions in place.

BBB 1, 2 , 3 and 4. So much hassle some have been canceled.

Several concerts refused.

I am not fully informed of all refused or ones where people have decided to go to other towns, but it is a fact other events are sidelined cos of the amount of money the gay drug and f*** fest uses up.

You're comparing apples with oranges. Having an event at Devil's Dyke creates all sorts of problems, and has a far different (as well as some similar) set of issues to Pride. And it's not only the Council that has a say in these matters - Highways Agency, Police, Health & Safety Executive, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, several other public bodies all have their say - a vital say - on public events.

BBB - the council were not happy with safety organisations, especially after the big one, which could have been far worse, and for future events, insisted on far greater controls - especially regarding crowd volume.

The council does not commit funds to the organisation if it doesn't think it's going to see it again. It commits funds or resources to an event it knows is not going to persistently lose it significant amounts of money.

That's why it's happy to support Falmer, for example. Brings thousands of people to the city - the local economy benefits...

Preston Park, it appears, can cope.

FBS - 250,000 in one narrow strip of land, and everyone disappearing at pretty much the same time. Pride is a bit more staggered.

wait for the stories in the news on tue about how lewd acts have gone on in front of families etc etc

Just used as an excuse for some to push their choice in others faces. Not against the principal but I think the images we'll see and behaviour that will go on will generally give Gays a worse name.

The problem I have with pride is that these abnormal people feel the need to stage a big event just to tell the rest of us that they feel proud to be sexually abonomal. I do not think 'Bestiality Pride' would attract such large support do you?

I don't see that they're doing any harm whatsoever. In fact I KNOW they're not. It's a Brighton festival like any other festival from the Bike Ride to the Vintage Cars. Easy to ignore, or easy to just go along and enjoy the sounds and the sights.

And Pride's directly across the road from me flat.

OK, park looks like a bomb's hit it on Sunday, but it's all cleared up by Monday.

I sort of like the fact that i can stroll two hundred metres from me front door and see Boy George playing a Culture Club set for free in a marquee.

My fault I'm sure

It would if (a) there was enough people doing it and (b) it was legal.

Apart from that, good post.

:lolol:

Oh dear, it must be nearly August again. Every year, the same old thread

I know thinking isn't the speciality of a few people on here, so to save you even more effort, I've included some familiar refrains below, so that you can simply cut & paste them for your next posts.

-"I'm not homophobic, I just don't see why the benders feel they have to shove it in my face"

-"why isn't there a Straight Pride, huh, if we wanted to do that, it would be illegal, it's Political Correctness Gone Mad"

-"I really object to seeing men walking around in tight shorts, arses on display"

[Note: under no circumstances should you admit to being happy for women to do the same in West Street every weekend]

-"I don't mind gays, I work with one and he's quite a pleasant chap, but they always seem to feel the need to SHOW OFF outrageously about it, like holding hands"

-"Is it too much to ask that I go for a walk in my OWN TOWN without having to look at POOFS everywhere?"

Very well-summarised and helpful post there Edna.

As you say, we go through the performance of this thread every year, and I really don't know why we bother. The event if happening whether anyone likes it or doesn't. If you want to enjoy it and appreciate it (regardless of your sexual persuasion), then please feel free to do so and have a great day out. If, for whatever reason, you disagree or disapprove, then simply stay out of the way and leave it for those who do wish to participate.

That said though, I don't in any way condone the public sexual exploits described on here (regardless of what combination of genders is partaking in them), and I honestly think that the kind of people who do things like that give the vast majority of the homosexual community a bad name through their actions, seeing as there are too many who will see one gay couple doing something they shouldn't in public and immediately tar every homosexual in Brighton (and the world) with the same brush.

The overwhleming majority of gay people, much like the overwhelming majority of straight people, are quite content to keep their sexual liaisons in private and no individual with at least a double digit IQ should stereotype a whole group because of the actions of a stupid few.

It's like those people who watch a group of drunken, tattooed, shaven headed thugs ripping up some foreign town because England have lost and who then claim that every England football fan on the planet is exactly the same.

Claiming Pride should be banned because you saw a few blokes setting up a daisy chain in the back of the bushes is like suggesting all football should be cancelled because you once saw two Palace fans twatting a passer by at Norwood Junction.

Sounds like you're condoning it. Do the boys in blue "turn a blind eye" to the sordid behaviour in public parks after the lights go down....to the open use of class A drugs and to the pornographic literature that is spread around ?

Or is it too politically correct to arrest them for blatently breaking the law.

???

Sorry but that is nonsense. If two Palace fans twat a passer-by they'd end up in court. As would anybody considered to be a football fan thought to be breaking the law. Heterosexual sex in public would likely lead to an appearance in court but it's fine for gay sex in a public place because it's only once a year? I'm amazed by your analogy-seeing as you're a member of the police force.
