Although he didn't say it I got the sense that Gus was hinting that he may be OK with what we've got in terms of the playing squad - maybe just because all in all (and without unknown injuries) I think we have. Anyone else get that sense from listening to him?

I think he was saying that his remaining targets have not been landed, so close, but they chose other options. Still hoping to get one or two but if not then he's comfortable with what we have.

I hope we have other options then, we are crying out for another CM at least.

Dont think for one second he will be happy with what we have atm...We have had no natural striker on the bench for the first three games, no experenced cover at centre half and I still think he will be desprate for an experenced dead ball central midfielder. Gus wont be fooled by the fact we have beaten two very average sides, in this division so far and we are a couple of injuries and suspensions in key areas, away from having to fill round holes with square pegs..Still expect at least three in the next two weeks.

We are way, way short of a complete squad in my view. 3/4 more required at least,

Well seeing as he wanted 3 or 4 more before we went to Portugal, I really can't see how that has changed.

We have a VERY small squad, I personally would LOVE a top class centre forward to play alongside CMS, although Hoskins might be that man...

Apart from Tanno and Vincelot, what cover do we have at Full Back?

As far as Central Midfield is conerned, with Bridcutt, Sparrow, Navarro, Vincelot and Dicker to choose from I feel we're OK there.

Need Adam and Tommy fit soon, before either Dunk or Greer get injured or banned. (Dunk 3 bookings in 3 games!)

Agreed that we need a free kick/corner taker too.

Hope for 2 or 3 before end of August...

In my mind we need a top quality left back to really put some pressure on Painter, a ball playing set peice specialist midfielder/winger and a short term loan for a centre back to cover untill Adam and Tommy return. Have to say with the forwards we have at the club i'd be happy with them untill the next transfer window and go from there. Can see Toby getting some 1st team action this season.

I think the key is here who we have played and how we have 'scraped' through. So far we have had the rub of the green and won three games but in the league we could easily have lost and drawn one.

I do not expect any addition to the strike force given what we have there and the potential costs involved. We would however benefit from an experienced and skilful central midfielder who is going to fit in with the team ethos. Maybe the bright start that has been made will encourage an arrival.

Similarly a qualilty central defender would be great and would show that we really do mean business in this division. This to my mind is the prime requirement. Many years ago a certain Alan Mullery spent £100k on a promising central defender by the name of Mark Lawrenson who was an outstanding talent (perhaps a typical Gus purchase). He took us up and kept us there. Would that be the final piece in the jigsaw ?

I guess it demonstrates what a tough job a manager has ... On reflection perhaps we are short 1/2 apart from cover in one or two places, maybe a contender for a CMF start and an aerial front man when things go tits up otherwise he brings in to cover for injury/suspension and how easy's that? I guess there are a few in the shadows that will also be knocking on his door for an opportunity once in a while (Toby/Cook/Jake/Kasim/Bergkamp etc) and the further they are pushed down the pecking order the more difficult to keep them motivated ... that's all

I think we are four short of a team that will do more than just survive in this league. If we want to be top half/ play off contenders we will need to spend.

I would not be surprised if Gus didn't add to the squad. We know he his very particular about the players he acquires because they have to fit 'our brand'. He may well have identified the players he wanted, but if they have gone elsewhere I can't see him buying a player in a rush! IMO Gus would rather get by with what he has than bring in a player that doesn't fit!

We will sign three players before the end of August. A forward, a midfielder and a centre half.

We just won a derby match and the argument on here was between which of our CM's was man of the match...

Maybe he's playing it cool and sending out a message to his targets that we've reached a take it or leave it stage. He does work for a rather useful poker player after all.

Gus needs a midfielder capable of controlling games for us IMHO.. At the moment most of our play/momentum going forward starts with Greer which is fine, but at times his options are limited which leads to either him looking for a hollywood pass or getting caught in possession (e.g 1st half, Gillingham game)..

If Gus can find a midfielder that has the knack of creating space and bringing others into the game it would make the difference between success and a bottom half finish I reckon..

Apart from that I'm happy with what we have, Brez apart.. A CB on loan to cover current injury list may be useful in the short term...

Vincelot is an excellent signing for us and would probably fit in as fullback cover, both sides if required!

Having said all this, I trust in Gus and It's just my own opinion like!

Spot on ! - And If we wish to progress, continue to consider options for the (perhaps not too distant) future.
