premiership extra game

do we actually think this is going to happen? so far all the clubs have agreed to look at the proposal, but i cant see it working for more than the top few clubs. Everton vs Blackburn or Derby vs Sunderland isnt going to attract any overseas interest. So then theres the propspect of seeded games to ensure top clubs involved (presumably double billed with another less glamorus game), but that could potentially consign teams to relegation as they face ManU or Arsenal for a third time. Like wise, the title and champions league places will be skewed by the fixtures, so many mid table teams wont like it on closer examination.

so all in all i cant see anyone out side the top 7 or 8 clubs (fan base wise) acutally going through with this. so is it all just a storm in a tea cup?

Could just imagine a place like New York jumping for joy at the prospect of Derby v Fulham, and Birmingham v Sunderland:lolol::lolol::lolol::lolol:

Bogus concept.
They have their own soccer league, and there's a cable channel that plays European and South American football almost 24/7.

What more can they want? A live game from the Prem? So WHAT?? It'll bring home the dullness of 'soccer' when there's no partisan fanbase, no atmosphere, dispassionate onlookers watching in half-interest.

I'll tell you what will happen...

The Premier League will ride roughshod over everyone's opinions and feelings - esepcially the fans and the players - and go ahead with the stupid scheme. They set it up, spend millions on advertising, expand their 'global brand', and the whole thing will be a damp wet squib, the novelty will wear off after a couple of goes.

The Premier League ultimately abandond the plan, whelch on the deal for helping 'grass-roots' football, and whack the prices of the match tickets up to cover the losses they will inevitably make on the back of such a f***ing silly idea.

I dont think it will even go that far.

As soon as UEFA tell Utd and co that if they do this they will be banned from Champions league they will pull out of the idea.

But will UEFA do that? Granted, if Platini has any say, he will stop them, but look at it from their point of view.

These crazy English clubs want to invest their egos in seeing if they really are a draw in the Far East or America. UEFA doesn't have to stump up any cash or any responsibility for this venture. If it works, watch the Italian and Spanish clubs following suit, and UEFA can cut itself in on the deals. If it doesn't, then UEFA retains its overall control. This is merely an extenstion of what the G14 wanted to do.

UEFA won't want to ban clubs, unless they can get a cut from the clubs.

Its a valid point, however UEFA want England to cut the league down to 18 as it is so they can fit interntional games in (I believe this is the reason) so this will really upset UEFA Even more. Platini clearly dislikes England and I get the feeling he is looking for any reason to hit English clubs.

Your point about Uefa wanting a cut is a fair one, but why would they want a small cut when they could get a much larger on eby touring the champions league, which for me is more realistic and likely to happen.

the point im trying to make is the Premiership is made of its members, the clubs, who ultimatly decide on these matters, and i cant see how the proposal is in the interests of more than a handfull of clubs. Once the others have looked at it for a few weeks, they'll abandon it, probably claiming its detremental to the home fan base.

Rafa has the best job in the league, the fans will back him what ever he does

I did find it funny that the Telegraph yesterday showed a map of the world and where/when the games could be played.
One example was something like Blackburn v Nottingham Forest in Dubai in 2011 :nono: What a corker!

I seem to recall Wimbledon weren't allowed to move to Dublin a few years ago as it would have taken business from the League Of Ireland. I imagine the Australian, Japanese, etc. FAs won't be happy with the idea.

Thats a good point about UEFA not letting English clubs join european compertitions. As The Premier League said that if the Football League brought in the 'if games are a draw there will be a penalty shoot-out for a bonus point availble idea' they wouln't allow clubs from the Championship join there league.
