Premier Loft conversion

We used them 18 months ago - we had problems with them in-so-much that the people who run the company aren't particularly good - but the people that work for them (sub-contractors etc) were very professional.

We had problems communicating with them, as the 'girls in the office' are the wives of the directors and seem to think that fact makes them important, so often they wouldn't reply to our messages or get shirty with us when we were chasing things up with them.

That said, the job they did was good (after the usual snag list was fixed), and the price was competitive.

How much is a loft conversion these days? Or is that like asking how long a piece of string is?

We've put our 2-bed house up for sale and are buying a 3-bed, but I forgot how expensive it was to move. Tot up all the estate agents' fees, solicitors, stamp duty etc and we're looking at nearly £10,000! What a bloody waste of money!

Cheers fella. I've heard similar figures - did yours include a proper stairwell, with separate door (so it's classed as an official extra bedroom)?

I was led to believe they start at £35k-40k.

You wally :lolol:

Seriously, though, what are they charging you JTM?

.

Having got a quote yet - though apparently it seems to vary as to where in the country you live.

It cost £18k for a house down the road last year which was 1 bedroom en suite!

Yep a proper stairwell and seperate door, 4 large delux windows.
We had 4 qoutes, most were around the 30k mark but, as well as being the cheapest they seemed the most proffesional and did i think a decent job.

We used a company called X-tendit, who are local.
Since then i beleive though a couple of the main guys have left i beleive for reasons i dont know.
Worth getting them in for a quote though perhaps, upto you.

we have gone into the loft, eastlondonseagull. mrs starry has a catalogue of before, during and after pics.

we made two large bedrooms both with full en suites and an office, two separate stair way and doors. the quote for that initial work was £41k. the actual job went over that fairly significantly when we had a ceiling disaster (entirely my fault) and then also because we added things on.

i like our house, but i would have preferred to move rather than all this work we have done.

The new house we're buying has a large loft and would be much easier to convert than our current house, so we're thinking of getting that loft done in the future. A one-bed ensuite would be what we're looking for. Gutting to think that our moving fees would cover half the cost!

How large was the house originally? Ours is a terrace.

If I PM you my email address, do you think Mrs Starry could email me those pics?

Thanks mate,

we are a detached so have had plenty of room to extended both upwards and sideways. it was a four bed when we bought it. we've doubled the bedrooms and added on lots of other stuff. really we would have saved money by just buying a bigger house in the first place but at least with it everything is how we wanted and not some builders decision 20 years ago.

yes, do pm i am sure she would share. i am not at home otherwise i would, am off to leeds for rugby soon and then we're all off to swindon tomorrow so when she sees it she will.
