Where did you get that 'basic economics suggests' wages should be under 40%.

I am not saying you are wrong, but hadnt heard of a rule in economics that suggests this.

One rule that should be adhered to is a movement towards profit and self sustainability but this isnt being met by many clubs across the leagues, thats why football is being propped up by wealthy benefactors and Sky TV, always a risk.

Looking at the Telegraph article Revealed: the financial health of the Premier League laid bare - Telegraph only West Brom and Stoke city have debts that would be managable if they were relegated. It is complete economic mumbo jumbo!

THis used to be the figure when I worked for a firm of Quantity surveyors in the 90's. They were a sort of Construction firm troubleshooter, this was one of their guideline principles of tell tale signs of a firm that was in danger of becoming financially unstable.

I appreciate thet this is a totally different industry, but if your were to adopt that benchmark it really is quite staggering!!!

Perhaps Fulham's net debt figure includes loan notes out to Al Fayed, much in the same way that ours would include the £100m out to TB?

Must be something like that as the interest servicing costs are so low. Unless they're on some ludicrously low fixed term facility this has to be the answer.

Same could apply to Chelsea, Villa and Newcastle where the debts are owed to individuals who are happy to receive nominal interest payments rather than leveraged ownership such as the Glazier's at Utd where debt servicing costs are notoriously higher.
