Exactly, IMHO it's a weird quirk of football.
The offense happened before the ball crossed the line so if we dealt with everything in chronological order the game would be pulled back for the penalty. But in this case the offense is overlooked because it resulted in a goal.
What would happen if I just picked the ball up, ran 20 yards with it and chucked it in the net? I bet it wouldn't be allowed, but its essential the same thing, with the exception of intent.
You would have invented the game of rugby, albeit 150 years too late.

Konate sent off. Van Dijk has been horrendous today. I'm assuming the tears in his eyes from learning about Klopp's departure have impaired his ability to see the ball or the opponents running past him.
