Well existing Covid cases and injuries to be precise.

What I mean is, they have no new Covid cases. It's purely injuries - and a suspension (Manquillo), although Hayden would be back.

According to the new 'Covid' rules, a club needs 14 players for a game to go ahead - but only players who have first team minutes (inc League Cup) count.

Newcastle played their first team in the League Cup (and lost). So they don't have to field their U23 players. They can just get a game postponed.

We played a load of kids in the League Cup (and some in PL), so fringe players such as Turns, Roberts, Richards, Leonard and Alzate count in our 14... grrrrr!

Disappointed to find ourselves behind that lot again and with only a slim chance of overhauling them this week. Good to see Watford and Norwich looking pretty much toast though. Very encouraged to be 12 points clear of the dotted line of doom as we approach the half way mark.

Absolutely baffling that Narch are STILL only 3 points off safety, and Newcastle only 2. Given the first half of the season they've just had, that is astonishing. 10 and 11 points from 19 games, and yet they're still in touch n(albeit having played more)

Any other season, they'd already be all but gone.

As baffling as us going 12 games without a win, and only being in the bottom half of the table because the three teams above us have played more games.

It is time for the FA to be clear about covid postponed matches. All we hear is clubs saying they don’t want to play kids to “protect integrity of the league” well how about the FA now protect the league’s integrity. How? A rule is introduced meaning that anyone who was injured rather than having covid who would not have played in the original match, or players who were signed after the date of the original match are not allowed to play. This would also also protect the league’s integrity.

It is an absolute shambles that teams don’t get forced to play their under 23s in the league or at least fill the bench with them. Spurs and Newcastle have not played the kids in carabeao cup which means they don’t get made to honour league fixtures. Ridiculous.

Klopp should definitely not have had laser eye surgery; much better suited to glasses, he’s gone from a 6/10 down to a 3 or 4/10 at best.

With newcastle game off because of covid that seems to have appeared within day of Utd game I assume clubs have to show proof of positive tests.

Newcastle haven't declared any new Covid cases. It's all about the injuries (and the fact that they won't play U21 players - grrrr!).

And one of their players picked up a second yellow, and so is suspended..!

I'm not sure about extending it to injured players, but I'm 100% with you that any players signed between the original match date and the new match date, should not be eligible to play*. (Much like a player who signs after a drawn FA Cup tie, is not eligible to play in the replay).

*unless our new (as yet unannounced) superstar striker, wants to slot the winners in our rearranged United and Spurs games...

The rule should only apply to the clubs that called the games off.

Possibly interesting little snippet...

Looked at longest break between PL matches in December and the teams next result (with days break for their opponents in brackets). So much for a nice break to recharge the batteries - all the teams who had an extended break did pretty badly... only exception in the list is Spurs getting a point v Liverpool - and some pretty poor results/performances in there for Watford, Man Utd, Liverpool, West Ham, Brentford, Brighton and Palace

18 - Watford - LOST at home to West Ham (2 days)
16 - Man Utd - DREW at Newcastle (8)
16 - Brentford - LOST at Brighton (11)
14 - Spurs - DREW at home to Liverpool (3)
14 - Leicester - TONKED by Man City (7)
12 - Norwich - SMASHED by Arsenal (8)
12 - Aston Villa - LOST at home to Chelsea (7)
11 - West Ham - LOST at home to Southampton (11)
11 - Southampton - WON away at West Ham (11)
11 - Crystal Palace - LOST at Spurs (7)
11 - Brighton - LOST to Wolves (4) / WON v Brentford (16)
9 - Liverpool - LOST to Leicester (2)
8 - Newcastle - DREW with Man Utd (16)
8 - Arsenal - WON at Norwich (12)
7 - Chelsea - WON at Villa (12)
7 - Man City - WON as per usual v Leicester (14)

still counting...

18 - Burnley - away at Man Utd (3)
17 - Everton - home to Brighton (4)
15 - Leeds - home to Burnley (3)
15 - Wolves - away at Man Utd (4)

Manchester City are 6/4 to win both halves against Brentford (who are without up to nine players) tonight.

Agree, it’s a shambles. Some of these clubs complaining they can’t fulfil fixtures are basically saying they can’t go anywhere because the Ferrari’s at the garage…when they’ve a dozen brand new BMWs, Volvo’s, Range Rovers etc sat on the driveway too.

Crikey. That would be worth considering at 4/6!
