Good evening from a soaking miserable Bradford...

My bro, me and a mate are off to Prague 25th May for 3 nights. I recall a mention ages ago of a bar / pub run by Seagulls in exile. Is this true or did I dream it?! If yes, where is it etc... I've been to Prague before, but only with girlfriends so any suggestions for lively clubs / best pubs / bars etc great fully received!

Brno is 4 hours away from Prague...it is cheaper, but..its not as lively. Ill put some stuff together over the weekend.
If you stay in the centre of Prague, you will pay top korunni...go to the bars and clubs that the czechs use which are generally 4 or 5 tram stops outside the center or 10 mins. You wont find too many Czechs in the center, its too expensive for them.

Need to know what sort of music you like...smoke/not smoke..our bar is seagull friendly, but is in fact a Ukrainian music club.
Were trying to get out of the lease, so dont even know if we will be there still on the 25th, but ill let you know.

Oh,and dont go to Prague,it is over priced and full of brit piss up twats,it is a lot like Croydon, go to Bruno.University town with a similar vibe to Brighton.

Yeah mate. Pay double there and will be standing in a bar with three other stag parties.

Yes, if you go to the tourist bars in the center..... like I say, a large beer in my bar is 35 whereas in the center its 55...move out of the center and the prices drop dramatically... to be honest, dont see that many stag parties here the last couple of years, as they have been going to even cheaper Tallin and Warsaw etc...

Prague is a fantastic city - not so much for the Stag element to it (we gave that a swerve) - but for its history, and its architecture. And it felt so CLEAN.

As Superphil, in one of his less misanthropic moments, commented on Prague - "There's nothing about this city that pisses me off..."

In a pile of football shirts
It's true, I did say that. Loved the place, price wise we managed to have 3 superb days and spent very little. The bars away from the immedeate vicinity of Wenceslas Square were superb value, Fourteenth Eye actually bought a round, when he got the bill he thought it was for one pint, but it was for all five. The beer we found was excellent, and the food, all pork and cheese based, is robust enough to keep up with the beer!

As for Stags, we saw one while we were there, and they were just having a good time, and not at all the pissed up brits lying in the gutter either. Apart from that we got some culture, went to some good bars, got sunburnt and were amazed by Daveinprague s bar!

Oh, and we couldn't find anywhere to buy a Dukla Prague away shirt, no-one seemed to know where their ground was.

Think Dukla play in a Withdeanesque stadium in Prague 10 now... I saw their youth team at the station recently and tried to get some info from them...sadly, they were typical footballers...thick as shit... and the convo didnt go far.

Prague Beer Museum Pub was excellent when I was there in November. It has 30+ beers with table service. Reasonably priced in English terms.

Steer clear of pretty much any pub near Wencelas (sp?) square and in the area near the famous (and underwhelming) clock, prices doubled from roads 5 mins away.

Most of the 'smoking' bars can be found in this area... just see if people are smoking...if they are, then the bar probably sells...they can be a bit iffy about
selling to strangers though...but, try your luck...in Shotgun, Chocobumba, Voodoo and Kennys Island all in the area around akropolis..shotgun has best.

also in Zizkov..
Palac Akropolis...multi roomed venue ..concerts, couple of bars...cheap restaurant on ground floor. Nr the hideous TV Tower.

Thanks for all your help, we're looking forward to coming a lot.

Thanks for the offer of stag fun too, but im not sure we'd be able to keep up!! (age and all
that..)!

I was surprised that a previous NSCer referred to it as overpriced and full of 'Brit pissed up twats', I was there with gf last year and it was very reasonably prices (however we have just returned from Ibiza which was very expensive) and there was no sign of any groups of lads or girls causing any problems.

Would you recommend taking local currency with you or getting it when we arrive?

Thanks again James

I wouldnt change in currency exchanges..some are mafia clearing houses ..if you do want to change money here, go into a bank. Im not even sure what the rate is anyway...might as well change half in UK and see how you go...
