I think the crucial point is Poyet doesn't regard the Albion as a Premier League club. If his ambitions were genuinely to manage in the Premier League then he was 180 minutes or so from realising that dream. With the Albion. Truth is, he sees himself as manager of a TOP Premier League team - which he patently doesn't regard the Albion as - and is confusing the realities of his status as a former player and his status as a current manager. Sorry, but for me he's about as psychologically unfit to be a top football manager as Roy Keane is.

Next stop South America, where they just might tolerate his wild and wacky head-mental ways

Whats the problem with that, why do people expect managers to be these machines toeing the party line? Its usually fake and dull. If you want a diehard Albion fan as manager, I'll do the job, and I guarantee I'll never quit and always refer to Palace as fairies.

Main thing is, he's still our manager and has TURNED DOWN approaches from Reading and by all accounts other clubs too saying he had unfinished business at Brighton. Which is a darn sight better than say, Coppell, who found it 'really hard to leave' but still ****ed of to Reading, or Adams, who always 'kept the faith' but then pissed off to the premier league as assistant the first chance he got, or Horton, who left as soon as a 'bigger' offer came in (Port Vale was it?), or Taylor, who took the glory but quit because the transfer budget wasn't big enough. They all had nice press conferences but actually quit when the bigger job came calling, Poyet might say it how sees it but at least he's still here.

Well not for much longer evidently, which is a massive shame.

Agree 100% with that. The truth is that we have the potential to be bigger/on a par with several fairly established Premiership clubs - Fulham, Stoke, Norwich, West Brom, Swansea, but as you say, that's not what Poyet wants in his fairy dust world. In terms of a Championship club with almost everything in place, he won't do much better than us, but that's of no interest to him.

But to be fair this is totally different to Coppell and Adams. They left a team in a ramshackle ground, with little support due to capacity, who (in Gus's words) probably had reached a ceiling. I actually had no problem with what Coppell said, and the fact he took a week(?) to decide showed a degree of respect to the club and fans. Yes, he still left, but at the time it could not be denied that Reading had a much better infrastructure. In terms of Adams, again hearsay but heard he was given an immense salary that would have turned most heads (and the promise of management once Dave Bassett retired - which was within 12 months if I recall).

What I find odd is if a big factor is budget which club does he think will give him more.

I can see more and more championship clubs reducing there budgets as player contract are run down ie releasing if to expensive.

Also if he wants to manage in the premiership while all clubs would have a bigger budget to Brighton, will he not have the same issue as unless he goes to a big 4 club (not going to happen) his budget will be small in comparison and so he'd have the same problem. In fact is Swansea one of the clubs that he's linked to not having issues with there managers due to budget?

All this 'best manager Brighton's had since' and all that, and yet Ian Holloway, Steve Bruce and Brendan Rogers all got their teams promoted while we stayed in this division. The season before it was Allardyce, Brian McDermott and Adkins while we stayed in this division with Poyet. Yes there were bigger budgets than ours at work in several of those cases, but Poyet isn't the be all and end all of the management game, and losing him and the roadshow that comes with him might be the best thing that could happen to this club.

I didn't quite see it that way. I'm not quite in the world of exaggerations and desperation for finding a villain, so instead i'll have nothing but respect and gratitude for where we got to - of a season i intend to remember once this gaping hole is filled with the astonishment i felt through pretty much all of it - and a little hope that the club get this mess over with so we can move on and have the chance of mirroring some of the amazements and even going beyond them with a new intercontinental rapscallion.

That's true mate , only been supporting Brighton over 45 years but I know nothing because I have only been on here a few weeks
But I will still wait until tomorrow, it's amazing there are only 3 People that know what is going to happen but we get over 20 pages of utter tosh. Still waving my nobody knows paddle in the air. But as for opinion this to end & ASAP so we can get on with next season.

As with many issues these days, people look for a black or white, good or bad judgement on people and tend to end up re-writing history.

For what it's worth, for me, Poyet will be the man who brought unforgettable, fantastic continental-style football to the Albion at the start of the Amex era, and who delivered considerable success on the pitch. An engaging personality, entertaining off the pitch and at press conferences, always with a ready quote, his supreme self-confidence and impatience to progress was simultaneously a strength and a weakness. His shameless self-promotion and touting of himself to other clubs was always an irritant to fans and club officials, but indicative a ruthless will to get to the top as quickly as possible.

I love how one sentence in the Argus saying Gus turned down an offer (not saying what the offer was), has decided so many people's view on how he is holding the club to ransom. It is sad that he did such a good job but his time as manager looks like ending in controversy and will taint the image of him at the club.

I really hope the Argus are right and it will all be over this week and we can get on with preparing for the new season knowing who will be in charge.

Completely right. I am fed up with the whole situation. It has been over a month now and the new season is less than 7 weeks away. It needs sorting this week and even then we will be well behind other teams in the build up to the season.
