I just find it quite sad all this abuse at Poyet. Some could argue the club did a hatchet job on him and a lot of people have brought the spin. I also think it is reprehensible the fact a few Sunderland fans tried to beat him up. It is all completely over the top. He is a football manager not a murderer

Please STOP stalking Poyet and move on. It is getting quite unhealthy now.

More factors come into play in our case due to bloom taking over and a new stadium being built...Healthy league 1 budget. The club was only ever going to go one way at the time lets be honest.

It's not rubbish and many factors come into the progression of a football club and not just a manager.
Winning league one was superb although we should never have finished 10th the following season in the championship as we was dogshite and 18th would've been about right...fluked many 1-0's that season.

At the end of the day he left Brighton in a far healthier state that when he took over and that is all that matters
He did not disrespect our club, he was with us 4 years (long time in football) and he had done his time with us and wanted to go on to bigger things (why would he not be allowed to do that with another club?, not as though he was born and bred in Brighton)
You are disrespecting him and I doubt you have ever had any personal dealings with him

I've never really forgiven 'the worst man in football' for falling out with Vicente to be honest. Strange he fell out with the only Brighton player who had more ability than him.

That, the incessant job touting, and his frankly insulting 'ceiling' comments at the worst possible time has truely tainted for me what could have been a great legacy at the albion.

Glad he is someone else's problem now.

I never gloat when someone loses their job, but for our ex Fuhrer Gustavo, I'm prepared to make an exception. Having said that, perhaps Bridcutt's goals from midfield might save him.

I think its hard to argue that his time here was less than positive, taken as a whole.
But that was then.

so he didnt say anything about ceiling and so on, painting the club as holding him back and not supporting his ambition/ego, before carrying out some misdemeanor that warranted the club to take formal dismissal? which the club has never (to my knowledge) disclosed. wheres the hatchet job and spin?

And formal dismissal for gross misconduct too = behaviour or action that completely destroys the employee/employer working relationship. Quite how anyone could ever contemplate re-employing someone who was dismissed on these grounds is astounding.

He left us in a better state did he..The fallout after he left and the wage bill he left behind, some would beg to differ.

His problems were thinking his style was the only way, needing great players to accomplish his perfect football, the grass was always greener, poor player judgment, and only thinking short term.

If an Eddie Howe type manager took over the job at the end of our promotion season they wouldn’t have even thought about letting Murray go, and instead of aiming for Van Dyke, but opting for a player at the end of his career, in Upson, a different manger would have looked at Elphic, Cook and Dunk as our future. There is no better feeling than having quality local lads playing for you.

It is so disappointing to see Cook and Elphic forming probably the best CB team in the Championship and just as disappointing seeing Murray holding his own in the Prem. Poyet set the club back years with his transfer dealings.

Yup, 4th in the Championship is better than 21st in League 1.

As for the wage bill, that's determined by Tony Bloom, only an idiot would claim otherwise. The manager has zero control over that.

Can't argue with any of your points. But dear god, we were good to watch when Gus was in charge.

You would have played two inexperienced youths in defence rather than an experienced player? Cook & Elphick have only just reached the Championship this season, having gained their experience in League 1.
I notice that you left out Grant Hall who refused a contract with us, because he saw the glittering lights of Spurs, but has gone out on loan time & time again, currently at Blackpool. It doesn't sound so glamorous struggling at the bottom of the Championship, and didn't back up your point.

I don't think Gus did us any harm. On balance he made us better. And I still like the passing game.

But I was never really convinced, since my interest on how he got one afterwards.

From what I have gathered he has not managed to get the bunch of Sunderland misfits to pass properly yet.

How does an 'Eddie Howe type manager' mean we would have kept hold of Murray?

Would Murray have guaranteed us success?

Good question. We didn't let Murray go, but offered him a new contract which wasn't enough for him. Palace offered more & a longer contract.

"Perhaps Sunderland have simply become so paralysed by their manager’s innate, and extreme, caution – a characteristic that led Steven Fletcher, a natural striker, to struggle horribly wide on the left here – that they have lost their nerve. If Liam Bridcutt – an appalling deputy for the suspended Lee Cattermole in central midfield – should not be playing at Premier League level, others including Brown, O’Shea and Jermain Defoe are underachieving."
