Power failures hit US and Canada
From BBC News:

Major cities in the United States and Canada have been affected by unexplained power failures.
Power blackouts were reported in the New York metropolitan area and Detroit, as well as in Toronto and Ottawa, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Office for Emergency Management in New York, where City Hall is operating on a back-up generator, said: "We have no idea how extensive it is."

It is not clear whether the failures are linked.

Apparently all down to a massive overload at one power plant.

Talking of power the French have had to shut down nuclear power plants due to overheating and very nearly had a total gid shut down last weekend.
