What's changed from earlier in the season what's changed.

We were playing out from the back not just across the back we were using wing backs who were bombing forward plus wingers this created loads of chances we did not take enough of those chances but loads of chances were being made

We are missing Dan Burn and Solly March that's the reason for the lack of chances

As I said on another post whatever result have enjoyed the football far more. However last 2 games in cup and on Saturday were as bad as any game under Hughton. When I see our 2 most creative midfielder, Alzate at full back and Mooy on the wind hope Potter has not lost the plot. OK when you are picking up points all acceptable. However a couple more defeats where he continues to change team and system every game will start having doubts. £40m was spent since last season and we should expect an improvement. Could be acceptable if we had spent very little like Burnley and Norwich.

Why are they a seemingly lesser team? That's what I mean about expectation. Grealish is a pain in the backside who always scores against us. I think if another keeper had been in goal, then Maupay's shot would have been the winner, but Reina pulled off a great one handed save. Just my opinion. Yes we were poor in parts of the game, but it's odd moments that win matches.

I don’t think they have as good a team as us, just 2 very good players. We under performed compared to what we're getting used to. villa I thought sere what we expect them to be. It was in our hands and we didnt win. Hence the dissapointment.

But isn't this just indicative of how teams are now setting up against us now compared to earlier in the season? We are struggling to find those forward passes ("between the lines") because teams are setting up to nullify that, especially to Mooy. I expect B'Muff to try and do the same as they are in such a desperate situation now. It's no coincidence that against a team like Arsenal (pre-Arteta), Norwich who want to play too and B'Muff when they are not so desperate, we may look as though we are playing better because the spaces are there. Sheffield United, Villa (2nd half) are good examples of this I think? The odd-one was Palace - I expected them to be much tighter that they were. They will be different at our place.
The team will have to try and adapt to find a way through in some games, but I think we have to recognise other teams tactics rather than just our own perceived short-comings.

I agree with you which is why I think the Murray replacement is so important as that is another option of this system of being able to hit a longer ball which is held up rather than only playing through the pockets of space.

My concern is we need to back Potter with options to get around it as we are quite limited with what he has at his disposal. He has shown as a manager he can switch things around if the opposition show signs they have us worked out so once we give him the tools I am sure we will see us back keeping teams guessing

Well said. The brighter managers have found ways to counter our strengths and stop us playing.

Mainly they've done this through choking space in the midfield and the penalty box, putting two on mooy and knocking our strikers over

Do we miss Hughton?

Personally, despite our shocking collapse during the second half of last season, I was a massive fan of Chris Hughton. I thought that he had a real sense of style and loved how much effort he put in, even in the smallest things - such as always wearing a suit. I do find myself wondering where we'd be now had we of kept Hughton, in the relegation zone? possibly top-ten?

There is the problem, too inconsistent because Potter keeps messing about with the team and changes. Pick a 1st 11 and tactics to start and go for it and stop watering the pitch when there have been downpours all week as that slows the game down and makes it easy to close us
