His press interviews have always been a bit strange but they are only getting more so.

He's like the bloke down the pub who attempts to show he knows what he's talking about by using "technical" speak but completely misses the point. He has always failed to come over with any passion, any expectation. In contrast you only have to listen to RDZ to appreciate the drive to do better, not just to be satisfied with the norm.

There's no doubt that Potter completely transformed the way we played but it was a technical change and often as the long periods of not winning showed, he lacks the passion to change things. RDZ just wouldn't accept a run of poor results. Potter did by giving excuse after excuse, learning's will be learnt, it is what it is etc etc.

One would imagine the coaching from Potter is very technical whereas RDZ would be as well but with a massive injection of Italian passion. The players have alluded to this nearly every time they're interviewed. I'd imagine some of the team meetings are, shall we say, very entertaining.

If Potter does get a nice pay off, he will get another gig with a similar team to us but again the chairman and the fans would have to deal with long periods of emptiness.
Very good post. Hampered a little more by a language barrier, the lack of inspiration and technical focus is beginning to remind me of this sorry bloke

Unai Emery before the game said he hoped Chelsea give Potter time, so he can replicate what he did at Brighton. I do hope so, gives us another 2 seasons of them not quite clicking before he finds a midfielder that he has had for a year is actually the missing piece, then fucks off to PSG just as the fans have hope of really competing at the top end.

Chelsea supporter on 6-0-6 last night saying they should bin off Potter and come in for RDZ.

And yet....and yet.....we can't beat teams we should of....teams like Brentford.

Is it not a funny old world?
Or they’re both rubbish.

Guardiola against all odds yesterday won. Whilst RDZ fluffed his lines again.

I find it slightly unbelievable that he's trotted out the 'lads gave it everything' line. Surely someone close to him could tell him to stfu, in the same way it eventually got through to him that learning and taking the positives was a nonsense for a football supporter
If the lads gave it everything then the reason for losing must be elsewhere. I wonder where that could be?

Yes - he sounded a right eejit - I think the level of contribution from callers is very inconsistent. I actually think the prog as a whole was better with one ex-pro (Sutton) and a broadcaster eg Ali Bruce Ball - Savage is a bit of a clown imo but maybe just my view

Just got an email from a long time friend, whose been a Chelsea STH for over 30years.

He describes GP as clueless, most attacking and dangerous Chelsea player yesterday by a country mile was Chillwell, so chasing the game, Potter moves him back to play as one of three centre backs, alongside Reece James, another attacking wing back. 🙈

He also describes the actions and general demeanour of Billy Reid as something straight out of Sunday league football.

Never mind the dressing room, my mate reckons Potter has lost the Bridge, the whole ground, the support was fuming yesterday , it’s just a matter of time he thinks, ironically defeat against us could be the final nail in the coffin.

Potter's post-Albion backroom staff are pretty much on a par with Poyet's post-Albion backroom staff

Yup. He must be begging for it all to end. I imagine he's absolutely crushed. The ego that thought he could be a success at Chelsea is going to take some time to recover from being so brutally exposed, if it ever does. Just because it's part of his job he'll be having to analyse what De Zerbi is doing too, in the same way he'll be analysing every team and game, and he'll be forced, like torture, to see players he had the opportunity to work with now doing better under someone else - he'll basically be having to learn not only what he's doing wrong at Chelsea but also where he could have done better at Brighton, without a great deal of positivity coming his way at all. From the Amex singing his name and the celebrations with fans at away games to being booed off every match, endless #PotterOut vitriol before even the first game in charge and relentless doubts from every quarter about his ability and job security...

He's smart enough and for all his faults self-aware enough to know that his snidey comments about Brighton and Brighton fans were graceless and make him look petty because he's not yet earned the right to be arrogant like Mourinho. On a human level I feel a bit sorry for him because it seems obvious he's out of his depth and knows it. Anyone who has ever had a job they hate and has to go in day after day will know that horrible feeling of dread and inevitability and just wanting each day to be over. While the money he's on and pay-off he'll get will cushion the blow a bit I think he's going to leave this job pretty broken. He'll know he left something good. He'll know he's probably blown his chance at managing the "big six" and it won't happen again, and by extension the England job might now be out of the question for a long time, if ever. He'll know a lot of players at that top level will be nervous about him taking over their team now having seen what's happened at Chelsea. If Howe goes to England would Newcastle even glance at Potter these days? He's not a bad manager, but he's tainted now for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if he takes a break from management or works overseas for a bit and ends up at Palace (not joking).
Hopefully Bruno has left "the entourage" before that happens.

I think Palace would be a perfect match for both team and manager. And because I've always been emotionally detached from him I wouldn't even care. Would be interesting to see how many of the other snakes would follow him though. Bruno would be a kick in the teeth and the nail in the coffin of affection towards him.

Chelsea v Briton is on 15th of April. He can get fired before the game ?
Can you imagine the huge level of internal stress he'll be experiencing before, during, and hopefully after this match.

Potter makes a simple game more complicated, by trying to be too clever and overthinking too often. This was misconstrued by the media as flexible and deep thinking strategy. They fell for it. They lapped him up. Youngish. English, articulate. New kid on the block. New focus for them. One of a new breed, destined for the top.
They didn't really stop to examine his record closely at BHA. All you heard was..." what a fantastic job he did "...." he was brilliant at Brighton " The booing at the Amex, when he returned with Chelsea, was totally mis-reported. Apparently, it was disgraceful to treat him that way after all he had done. No mention of the main targets...Cucurella, Gallagher and Ben Roberts at HT. Potter got off very lightly but it fitted the agenda to make out that he was booed endlessly. He had courted and wooed them, they had fallen for him and would not hear a bad word said about him.....and many of the same are keen to give him more time now, despite the toxicity at the Bridge. " He needs time to implement his ideas " " He had all these players dumped on him and he doesn't know his best team yet " Well, if I paid someone north of £10m a year, I would expect him to know his best team pretty damn quickly.
You can recognise an influential manager. You notice changes within the team. Maybe more confidence or certain players upping their game. You can see what they are trying to achieve. A structure. A belief.
Potter is not a clear enough thinker for a job like Chelsea. Players at that level are not taken in by soundbites and platitudes. Potter has a second rate team behind him and this will not help garner respect from elite players. Boehly will look for reasons to keep him but if they have no European football next season, it will be a massive blow. He may already feel that he has made a mistake but he will not want to lose face this early. It was his first big decision and there will be increasing pressure from a disenchanted and demanding fanbase.
His revealed a side of his character at Brighton that was disrespectful and arrogant and it left a sour taste. Some of his utterances now are borne out of desperation and frustration. He is floundering in his big opportunity in life. It is not a comfortable watch. He may be given a few months next season to show improvement but if he is only involved in domestic competition, then he will have to be ripping up trees to survive. There are better teams than Chelsea and better managers than Graham Potter standing in his way.

Forget Bruno.
He has tarnished his legacy forever and any affection for him has long since disappeared. He is just as much a snake as any of the others. He kicked us in the teeth. All this...." he didn't really want to go " is nonsense. As all the horses galloped out of town, he was riding alongside them. When the Messiah finally leaves the promised land, I won't shed a tear for any of them.
