Peterborough argue they are out of pocket over Etherington's move
Peterborough have made a formal complaint to the Football League over former player Matthew Etherington's transfer to West Ham from West Ham.
Manager Barry Fry claims the winger was valued at £500,000 in the £4m transfer which took French striker Frederic Kanoute to White Hart Lane.

If that was the case, Peterborough would receive nothing under the terms of Etherington's sale to Spurs four years ago - the winger was sold for the same amount in in 1999/

Spurs had agreed to pay Peterborough 15% of any future sale above the original price.

Fry told Peterborough's official website: "I spoke to (Tottenham director of football) David Pleat and he told me the deal was worth £4m of which Matthew was valued at £500,000.

"A week or so before that Matthew was going to Charlton in a £5m deal with Scott Parker where Matt was valued at £1.5m.

"How on earth has his value gone down that much in just a week? We have made our feelings known and it is up to the governing bodies to sort it out."

Oh he's worth 5p all right. I think he'll do well in a 442 for West Ham, he's a classic left-winger and never enjoyed Hoddle's wing-back system.

He was certainly classic for Posh against us at Gillingham. Ran the
length of the pitch with the ball and completely missed it when he tried to cross the ball. That one moment made the 200 mile round trip worthwhile. :jester:
