My job is moving to Portsmouth in March and i have the unenviable choice of driving everyday. Does any body else do this run and i have to be there by 7.30 in the morning. so what is the traffic like that early in the morning so i can guess what time i have to leave to get there in time.

Traffic is bad, really, really bad. If I want to drive round from Gosport, if I am not on the road (20 minutes away) by 06:30, then it can take over an hour to get in!
Whereabouts in Portsmouth are you working?
The only other person I know that comes to Portsmouth from Brighton gets the train.....

Have you done a dry run yet? I would advise you to try it one morning, just so that you can see what it is like!

Still the same, not all the trains stop at Hilsea. The problem with Pompey now is that the Eastern Road, Western Road, A27 feeders, and M27 can really block up as people try and get into work.

You want to try being a staff car driver around here and guessing how long it will take me to get from A to B with a time-critical Flag Officer in the back of the car.....stress, stress, stress!
I drove from patcham to nelson everyday in the early 90's, needed to be there for 8o/c start and it use to leave at 630

Tricorn is now flattened and a car park, but the reductions in lanes still causes bottlenecks, as do the strange combinations of traffic lights, speed restrictions, and roundabouts which conspire to keep everyone crawling along. The only way is to use taxi and bus lanes, not that I would advocate doing that unless you have a "get out of jail free" card!
It is bad, sorry but there is no way of telling you otherwise - you will just have to get some relaxing CDs in the car, and chill out. And for God's sake make sure that car is topped up with oil and water, we see so many people overheating or breaking down in the warmer weather, and it blocks the roads even more!

Never. Never been known to drive around with flag out and lights on just for the fun of it either....or turn up at ships and watch the baby Officer of the Day do it in his trousers at the unannounced arrival of a Rear Admiral.....or used his rank to my benefit! Or told the Fleet Joss to move his car because I need his parking space....
This Boss is a good one though - we have picked up waifs and strays on more than one occasion as a taxi service through the dockyard! And he has been known to drive me whilst listening for strange knocking sounds from the boot. Must remember to let that dockyard matey out next time we go out.....!
