Because it isnt until recently that we've had a sizeable minority of people that are demonstrably antagonistic towards british service personnel, it's what happens when large sections of the muslim community have little or no interaction with the host country ,and see themselves as having more in common with and loyalty to a fellow muslim in iraq or afghanistan, unpalatable as it may be to those of you who continue to persist in the myth that we live in one joyful multicultural melting pot, huge swathes of immigrant communities have settled here and created mini versions of the country they came from, retaining their lifestyle, traditions and language, just with the added benefit of the welfare state and minimal contact with the local population.
I'm just waiting for the predictable response about leather skinned expat brits in spain , well at least the spanish dont have their government and state broadcaster regularly extolling the virtues of the british community and the massive contribution they make to spanish life, and i cant remember the last time there was a pro gibraltar march through marbella.
As for wearing a poppy, like a previous poster said , it SHOWS you care , all the mealy mouthed comments like " I contribute but choose not to wear a poppy" are a cop out, either be up front about buying and wearing a poppy, and the reasons behind it , or do the reverse , and have the balls to say why you dont.

I've corrected you.

,very, very rarely will you see a black or asian wearing one , that's my view , whats yours ?

Utter, utter bollocks. I was in a supermarket in Brixton yesterday morning around 11am. PLENTY of Asian and African people wearing poppies and the two minute silence was impeccably observed by everyone except one divvy white, English woman who failed to notice that everyone else had stood still and was silent and proceeded to talk nonsense to her toddler throughout. At the end of the silence, she was rightly admonished by a middle aged rastafarian for having no respect.

Maybe living in leafy Sussex has warped your views on the real world?

As for my views, re-read my original post on this thread. Point still stands.

Utter, utter bollocks , I suppose it depends on your definition of plenty. I've seen hardly any , and yes I'm in london every day.

Why would I make that up? In my office, there are also plenty of people of every race, creed and denomination who wear a poppy.

Granted, the percentage isn't that high compared to your average white Englishman, but to say "hardly any" is just a complete lie.

What do YOU think the reason is for the lower percentage than the average white englishman ?

I was brought up and educated at school to wear one. My parents made me wear one and understand the significance of wearing one.

Not wearing a poppy doesn't immediately signify a hatred of all things British. As far as I am concerned the majority reason is a lack of understanding and education about it's TRUE meaning of remembering the dead. Too much emphasis is put on the "supporting the troops" angle which (rightly or wrongly) rubs people up the wrong way, much like you are doing with me now with your contstant Muslim-hating.

They haven't been English since Richard III
.

We haven't been English since the 5th century. We are descended in the main from Angles and Saxons ( Anglo Saxon) which were both German tribes and later the Danes and then the Normans in 1066. What do you consider English?

Obviously they dont follow such a careful moisturising and exfoliating regime as you.

Well they should. All that sun and a diet of chips is not good on the skin.

So you admit that a large section of these people dont support our troops ? Can you tell me why you think this is ? I'd contend that a vast majority of people do support our troops , what is it about supporting our troops that "rubs these people up the wrong way ?"

you're confusing English with Britons, the anglo saxons were the first people to define themselves as english.

Maybe the fact they are shooting at those who they perceive to be their people? Not saying I agree with this but I can understand the sentiment on a rudimentary level. The Poppy campaign needs to get back to what is should be about, remembering the dead.

Is this f***ing Question Time? Are you going to actually provide any "insight" or do you just want my thoughts?

So anyone who considers themselves English are in fact of German origin, Are their any true pure Britons left?

It seems that you confirmed what Bushy original observation were.

All be it in your own office.

What, that hardly any Asian or Black people wore poppies?

Pretty sure my intentions were to debunk that myth by using my office as an example? If i'm wrong please fee free to point me in the right direction.

I've given you my insight as to why the wearing of poppies is such an issue at the moment, you just dont like what i've said , albeit that you've confirmed it with this sentence " Maybe the fact they are shooting at those who they perceive to be their people? ", in fact you've confirmed what i've said for a long time about the divisions in society.

Can you not empathise with that stance at all? Because if not, the argument ends here as it is pointless.
