The big pub on the corner oposite the entrance does great food and is family friendly.
Serves a decent bitter as well if I remember correctly.

'Still and West' on the point is pretty decent for families! Also one close to there on the corner but can't remember its name. Upstairs has a nice view of the harbour.

The tower is a complete waste of time, don't bother with it.

Depends what you want food wise. Water Margin is immense for chinese food otherwise avoid eating in gunwharf as it tends to be expensive and slow. Most places are family friendly though.

best thing you can do is get a ferry or hovercraft to the isle of wight!
gun wharf and surrounding area is overrated and nothing to write home about!

Water Margin is not that cheap, and not that good - like a school canteen, and sometimes the food is, to be honest, shit. Better to go to Tiger Tiger (good value and decent food) or Frankie and Benny's up by the cinema. Dockyard can take you a long time to get around, especially once the kids get into Action Stations. Gunwharf isn't bad if you like shopping, it can be cheap. Tour by boat is also OK, they will show you whatever is left in the dockyard and the running commentary is not bad. The tower is actually OK, the view is quite good on a decent day, you can see the pox-ridden shitehole that is Southampton, and on a day with a decent following wind, you could probably piss on Fratton Park as well. The kids like running over the glass in the floor.

If you are going to park in Gunwharf, then buy a kiddies' cinema ticket for a film you won't see, then get it validated in the pictures - gets you discount parking! If you want to park elsewhere, then get in early.

Southsea is a total shithole - the kids will just want to go to the funfair, which is neither fun, nor fair. It is possibly the most bollocks funfair in the whole UK. Expensive, crap rides, no-one from down here ever goes.

I would park straight in Gunwharf and do the "kids film" trick (or actually go and watch a film in the evening). It's what we do. Fun stuff at night with kids in Portsmouth? Watching the "Welcome to Portsmouth" signs disappear in the rear view mirror.
