Pompey - Getting away with murder...

Gods country fortnightly
Pompey today will go into administration with £70m of debts, built up after years of total mis-management. The punishment - a 9 pts deduction........
So here we have a club that "lets face it" are getting relegated anyway, and will be able to start a fresh in the Championship with a new owner debt free. Can that be right? If they owed me a £1m I'd be pretty pissed off. While we have a meagre 9 or 10 pts deduction in place clubs will continue to be irresponsible and live beyond their means....

Going into administration does not mean they will dump the debt - necessarily. It just means that an Administrator is appointed to run the club and to try to pay off the debts. He will not worry about the footballing side - he'll just be trying to reduce the overheads (sackings) and raise funds to clear debt (could be through voluntary arrangement if the creditors agree). Some companies come out of administration in due course - others dump their debt and simply re-start the following day having started all over agian without the debt burden. We have yet to see what Portsmouth will do.

Although it looks likely that they will dump the debt if they can and if the creditors agree. Any way you look at it it's ugly.

If it makes you feel any better they'll start next season with a big deduction too.

where did you get that info from? Provided they are out of Administration beginning of next season they will be fine

Makes you wonder why we didn't go down that route prior to losing The Goldstone?

Absolutely. But it's not a surprise, as it happens every time though, and will continue to happen until the authorities get a grip and attached a proper punishment to administration. Relegated 2 divisions if it happens in the close season, or 2 "additional" divisions if during a season you were being relegated in anyway.

I'm sure we'll hear all about the "lessons learned" from the EPL, and how they are "bringing in measures to ensure this doesn't happen again", but it's too late. The horse has bolted from his stable, gone through the field and is signed up with Max Clifford in the next Town by now.

This was OBVIOUS for all to see from the moment Leicester did a very convenient packaged receivership after being relegated from the Premiership and came back a year later with a new stadium and debt free. Strong measures should have come in then, but everyone has just danced around the subject. If proper punishments had come into force then, Pompey would now be facing relegation to the Championship due to their results, and then a further 2 divisions to League 2 because of their finances .... or more to teh point they would never have got to this stage because THAT punishment would have been harsh enough they would have never got themselves into this mess in the first place.

The administrator is a bloke called andronikou, he is a grade A wanker, was our administrator, with him at the helm i think the future looks very bleak for them.

The first thing he should do is sack Peter Storrie. He's paid £1.4m for what? Apart from failing maths for 6 year olds, obviously.

Pointing out to all the Pompey fans here that I have a can of Coca Cola on my desk - and they should get used to seeing it. They are moaning, claiming they won't be down there for long, they are a bigger club, they won the FA Cup, etc, etc. I hope they get the Football League punishment of extra points deductions and drop to League 1, they are forced to sell that shithole of a ground, and they are banned from buying players. Short of the ground burning down, I find it hard to wish enough bad news on them.

i cant see how they will turn it around. the HMRC debt and the other football debts aren't going to go anywhere, and the HMRC is growing each month. if they still have those hanging around come august, they will still be in administration. fail to agree a CVA on payment of them and they get an additional 10pts deduction. they are then headed for League 1 and who's going to buy a League 1 team with no ground and still has millions of debt? and of course, with still no resolution they will have another 20 pts deduction...

the only way out for Pompey it seems is relegation, cull the squad of all wages, then spank every penny in parachute payment, EPL "prize" money and TV money to clear the debts. they then come out of administration and have to play the youth squad.

Relegated 2 divisions if it happens in the close season, or 2 "additional" divisions if during a season you were being relegated in anyway.

you might as well simply expell them from the league as it amounts to the same thing. certainly, it seems harsher on league 1+2 then Championship + PL. it feels like too much, but then the current punishment clearly hasnt acted as a deterent. i think a bit more regulation on costs/expenditure is what we will see, but then thats likly to favor those with large grounds. reckon this is why they pussy foot around the issue, theres no clear fair solution.

Very pleasing to hear lots of "we hate Pompey" chants on the way to The Valley last Tuesday.

Palace will always be scum #1 to us, but worth remembering that these twunts aren't far behind, and if there's any justice they'll be rattling around in this division in front of 6,000 before long. This will be most amusing, what with Southampton and ourselves both destined for better things in proper football grounds.

9pts deduction ? What an absolute joke penalty for a team that where going down anyhow. Burn their city to the ground and transport all their twatty supporters to a deserted uninhabited island and I`ll still think they got away with it.

If only Fred Dinage would break down live on air when telling the South that Pompey were doomed.

Apparently [according to SSN], the administrator has a hit-list of employees who can be culled. The 'Communications Director has already gone.

Guess who WROTE the list for the administrator?

First Leicester , then Leeds and now Portsmouth. The FL needs to impose a minimum 30 points deduction on Portsmouth for next season for them bringing the game into disrepute.

But will they be out of administration? They need £25m just to see out the rest of the season, they have sold the ground meaning their only assets are their players - and nobody thinks their squad is worth that.

There's a lot of work to do just to make the club look vaguely appealing to even a wealthy benefactor with money to burn.
