Barnes won't start on Tues. Gus maybe stubborn but he is not totally out of touch with what the fans are thinking. Bit like the Southampton game last season, where everyone was either suspended or injured and he had a straight choice between Harley and Caskey in midfield. He knew if Harley played and f***ed up, he would be slaughtered for it, so he played Caskey. Gus won't play Barnes on Tues, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him bought straight back for the Palace game.

it should be though, he is a striker, or are we saying we play one up front all the time, thats crazy when you have the attacking players we have.

It's what bugs me too. Barnes is supposed to be a striker yet he gets put out on the wing and asked to defend. Square pegs and round holes... Although for some time I've felt that Barnes needs dropping it's not his fault Gus plays him out there.

In a squad as competitive as ours we need players to feel like they have to be at top of their game to retain a starting place. If he starts it is a massive slap in the face for the more talented players on he bench who deserve a chance to shine

That and can you imaging the reaction if he picks up where he left off yesterday......

explain to me the role he plays? he is a striker, there to score goals. he does not do that enough to justify being in the side weekin and week out, his shot yesterday when through went so far wide it was embarressing. he needs dropping and needs to re focus starting Tuesday. time for change. NOW

Gus does not play him as an out and out striker and has not done so for a while.

That's as maybe. Barnes doesn't play as a striker. But a lot of people call for him to start as a striker and he is suppose to be a striker. My point is, that he gets loads of chances and fluffs them, regardless of where he is playing on the pitch.

Yes agree and I would like to see him start as a striker but perhaps the way he has been coached has taken some of that striking instinct away, only a thought ?
I have always been one to defend Barnes but I am now asking myself whether he has come as far as he can at this level.

Depends whether Bridge is fit or not, Barnes covers for Painter

And boy will he need to cover for Painter with Albert Adomah running at him! I like Painter but his biggest weakness is his lack of pace and I fear for him on Tuesday.

He obviously won't. People who vote yes clearly don't have faith in the manager.

I think people who vote Yes understand that Gus has his own ideas on formation/player selection regarless of what they feel should happen. GUS is NOT for changing.

Yes, we play with one striker. This isn't something new, he played Barnes out wide most of last season. Most Barnes threads over the summer and early season hae highlighted how he is more a wide midfield player now.

We also have some attacking midfield/wide men, and attacking full backs. Because we have attacking full backs the wide midfield men also have to defend (especially when Painter is on). The wide men's primary role is support and/or provide - support the attack, provide for CMS, and support the defence.

In normal circumstances I would expect Barnes to start for his defensive role and because he is our best header of the ball. However, he has not been heading any better than Dobbie recently which is not to say Dobbie can head the ball.

For the near post from the left side cross I would prefer Dobbie. For right side crosses I would prefer Barnes. So Macca and Dobbie could pair up. For defence I would prefer Barnes. For shooting around the edge of the box I would prefer Dobbie. Very close.

Macca has the edge on Hoskins for me. But there is not that much in it.

Well, I hope not, I watched him carefully yesterday to see what job he does on the left hand side, to try and convince myself that I do know something about football, as Gus stated if I could not see the Role he plays in the team, then I know nothing about football. Well Barnes role is to do nothing of real note, he does track back, but does not really mark to tackle, his first touch is very bad, he sulks when things goes wrong and his finishing appalling, but Gus could be right, I know nothing, but maybe thousands others don't know anything either, as most people were wondering how he started again, after he was so bad last week as well. Think the cog needs replacing, Hoskins please.

Can you elaborate on that please? Why do you think he has the edge?

You make out in your post that Dobbie plays as much as Barnes which is so way of the mark. I've only seen Dobbie play cameo roles and not enough to give my verdict so your assessment is flawed.
