I enjoy running polls. I am however aware that they might annoy some, when I do run them I try not to have more than 2-4 threads running at once, so as not to clutter up the board.

I really like the idea of doing a 32 competitors, The Great American Band 2024 competition.

R.E.M. vs Talking Heads vs Ramones vs The Beach Boys vs Guns'n'Roses vs Pixies etc - plenty of chances to post songs in support of arguments, talk about albums that meant a lot to you and why etc etc.

But I don't wish my thread's presence to be a net negative overall to this fine forum and appreciate some might start to feel a bit polled out.

So, thoughts?

(sorry @Mustafa II - I have an idea how you might vote here...)

I've voted yes.

You've run the comedy ones really well, they weren't overly intrusive so I say crack on once the USCC is finished. Unless there's already one being run by someone else. Then you'd run the risk of poll fatigue on the board.

If you’re referring to a thread I started, would you do the honour of including Sparks? No known to a lot of people but did get 3 or 4 mentions. Time served, plenty of Albums and have been in the business over 50 years.
I’d be curious to see how they got on

I don't think this board's big enough for Sparks and all the other bands.

It's another yes from me (although British bands are better than US ones, while US soloists/singer-songwriters are better than British ones -- we don't need a poll about that: it's obvious).
@Mellotron did a wonderful job with the comedy one, as for everybody else, well, I couldn't possibly comment.

Do you mean the USA, north America ot the Americas? All a moot point as it is clearly between Neil Young with any backing band or Bob Dylan and the Band.

I meant the good ol' USA. Ever heard of it? Land of the free and home of the brave. God Bless America.

If I do run this poll, it'll be with the usual nominations and secondings that need to happen for a band to quality. I don't choose who competes - NSC does.

I do wonder whether I would try to find a way to lengthen the nomination process slightly though, as some were (understandably) IRKED that the USCC24 is filled with comedies chosen within about a 40 minute time window, and so was very skewed by who happened to be on at the time.

Not certain what the solution is though, any thoughts? Maybe allow less nominations/secondings per person? Or 3 approvals needed per band, rather than 2? I dunno.

You'd think they'd be a contender, wouldn't you? Not for me Clive, I like them but I've never LOVED them.
This can all wait for the COMP, but there will be very, very few contenders who can come close to matching the breadth AND quality of the REM songbook.

There is an REM track (or ten) for every mood and every occasion.

Yeah, go for it. It'll be a very small competition though as there's Lynyrd Skynyrd and then there's ...... um ....... nope, struggling to think of another.

Would this image be an example of pole fatigue since they are members of the Polish Army?
