Politically Correct or not ?

I heard and old expression yesterday that I haven't heard for a long time. Somebody was refering to a person who was working very hard as 'working like a black'. Now that's a compliment in itself but it equates to the days of slavery when black slaves were worked very hard literally to save their skin.

Was it a PC or non PC remark ?

I have just got to hear Looney's take on this !

i fail to see how it could be regarded as PC

its not particularly offensive though

then again i'm not black, don't work hard and am not a slave

Jeez, that expression was deemed offensive in the 70s, let alone these days.

You don't have to be black to be offended by that.

Doing anything like anything is going to un-PC, and if it's then something which refers to slavery then it's pretty clear it's not going to be PC. Wether you're offended by it is a different matter.

Don't think that's true - to say someone worked like a dog wouldn't be 'un-PC' (whatever that means).

I think PC has gone mad , at times especially on this board however working like a black is blatantly racist + wrong

I got told off for saying I was working like a Japanese prisoner of war.

Whilst I intended flippancy, I realised how it could be misconstrued...

You need to be careful not to confuse PC tubthumping and the like with just being plain offensive to some...

For example - saying "working as hard as an ethnic group that is famed for working extremely hard and efficiently" is as PC as it gets, but could stil piss people off.

Why all these 'naughty' threads tempting some faintly racist people out of the closet so people can cry "lowlife tosser" at some lowlife tosser?

There are loads of expressions and items that are no longer pc that were once par for a blithely ignorant course.
Gollywogs, Robinson's jam lables, Black and White Minstrels, Al Jolson, Alf Garnett, Sambo's restaurant chain, and etcetera.

Great, now let's get on with enjoying ethnicl variety without getting silly about it, and the World is suddenly a free place with equality for all and born equal.

Thankyou.

Why the f*** do people keep starting therad after thread about political correctness and what you can and can't say.

a) They always end in FIGHTS

and

b) They are f***ing boring.

Perhaps that's the reason.
