The Portugeuse police must have found something to take this new line.

I don't recall anyone ramming anything down your throat. I dont recall anyone saying they were perfect parents. How could they. For a start there is no such thing. People just generally do their best.

Honest question DKM, do you believe the McCanns did "their best" on May 3rd (and the nights preceeding that allegedly)?

Thats all you can do as a parent is do your best and allways put safety first with your kids.

I'm sorry but that is rubbish. Some of us on here questioned why they left their young child alone, if of course they did which I for one have always had my doubts about, and we were semi-vilified by some posters for having the temerity to not swallow the story hook, line, sinker and all the contradictions in it that were evident from day one if you bothered to question. I wonder if those who attacked us for doubting the story will appologise if it does turn out one or other of the parents may have been involved.

No I don't. I read an interview at the weekend where I think the father said they did not even occur to them there was was danger. It was a short walk back to the apartment and they felt it was like having dinner in your garden with the kids asleep in the house. All parents make those type of judgements all the time - whether your kids are safe where they are etc.

I have been to the next apartments at that resort - and can just about understand their thinking - but I can't see that we would have left under-fives by themselves in that environment.

But I am not going to judge them - and I am certainly not going to condemn them. As I say we all make those decisions all the time - and 99.999999% of the time it works out ok. For this couple it didn't. But that does not make them sinners or indeed murderers.

I was horrified from the outset that they had left three children under five alone - anywhere, let alone in a foreign country, and they said the worst they could be accused of was 'naivety!'. I may be overprotective but I panic if my three aren't in my line of sight or with someone I trust (11, 8 and 6) - the thought of leaving them alone when they were under five, would NEVER have even occured to me!
I feel sorry for the child. My hope is that she was sold to a childless couple and is living happily under a new identity, because the alternatives are too horrible to even contemplate. Its a shame some of the publicity wasn't turned to good use and highlighted the plight of other missing or disadvantaged kids, not just focused on one child. Woah. Deep for a Friday, I need a cup of tea....

Semi-vilified. Were you feeling a bit sensitive ?

I understood the criticism of the McCanns was they left their children alone in the apartment. I understood they were being accused of negligence - and there were suggestions that somehow Madeleine got what her parents deserved. I didn't realise people already thought they were murderers. You are in the wrong job.

Having read the debate on here for the last few months and seen the pictures in the press I feel I am much better qualified now to offer an opinion on the matter. It has been so very difficult at times to see the wood for the trees but really there is only one conclusion I could ever really come to ............

........................................................ Yes I`d do her.

If you had been bothered to read all the other stuff that has been written on this topic, which you evidently haven't, then you would see I have already said I will apologise for thinking they were involved if it is shown they were not.

I will certainly not appologise for calling them selfish and neglient parents though.

Not sensitive at all. It's simply true.

And yes quite frankly, I did think from day one they may have been involved. The story had more holes in it than a slice of Edam.

And I really don't understand your job reference. For a start you have no idea what my job is so how can you make a rather pointless comment like that.

Fair enough. It was a bit glib.

I know where someone is murdered (any we don't know whether that is the case) the first thing you should do is round up the relations. But they were with a group of friends. I can't see how that environment could lead to anything suspicious. But I know no more than anyone else.

I'll back you up to an extent - from the minute this story broke, you have indeed questioned the parents. However, I doubt there were more than 2 or 3 of you on here saying the same thing. And I certainly don't think you're the one who has been semi villified on here! In fact IMO the only people who have been villified have been the people showing any sort of understanding towards the parents for leaving their children as they did.

Do you mean emmental? I'm not sure Edam has any holes in it at all.

We need to at least try and get our cheeses right at this time.
